are there any aesthetic or mechanical features that distinguish these two M coupes from each other? other than the engine/drivetrain obviously. I mean anything on the body, or option wise, just curious as i havent been able to see anything at first glance

aaaah, the good old days
I think the OEM wheels on the S54's have a "satin" finish to them, whereas the S52 wheels are painted silver...
Gauges on S54 are grey where as on the S52 they're black. Laguna Seca Blue is only available on 01-02 models. I think there may be some other differences aesthetically, but none come to mind right now.

I believe the steering wheel rim may be slightly thicker, but I'm not sure on that. The other "differences" have been covered.
Obviously the most magical one is under the hood.
steering wheel is the same.
www.368s.com compares differences as well
99-00 M coupe vs. 01-02 M coupe
ASC -VS- DSC
Big rear view mirror -vs- Small rear view mirror with chrome ring
no chrome headlight rings-vs- Chrome headlight rings
S52 engine -vs- S54 engine
one amp, shitty speakers -vs- two amps, shitty speakers
clutch dies b4 100k miles -vs- beefier clutch
silver painted wheels -vs- gun metal like painted wheels

All M coupes had clear corners, with the exception of a few early build date 99s. 01 also came standard with a cd player instead of a tape deck (which became an option at that time).
This is the last time I will do this....From now on, noobs with will get a "use the search function" reply!

PDX nice post, just one thing...All MC have only one shitty amp, not two.
Also, from the outside other then the things already said, the badge placement on the rear is diiferent. On an 01or02 the top of the ///M lines up with the top of the brake light. On a 99or00 the bottom of the ///M lines up with the top of the light.
Here is an 00
here is an 02
Ooops! I have a friend with an 01 MC and he told me that it had two seperate amps wired up....last time I trust somone without verifying first! lolOriginally posted by NC ///MC

Unless you are a poseur like myself and have the newer badges in the newer location on the "old" car.
Oh, and I still agree with PDX. This topic has been........

It's hardly poseur when only like 140 people giveor take a few, know the secret of the curved badge!
Actually, the chrome headlight rings and chrome kidneys started with the 00 model.Originally posted by PDX M Coupe
