Talking can you run open headers??

ok so theres a carshow at my high school and one of the classes to win in is meanest sounding engine, i was thinking of running open headers just to school which is less than 3 miles away then running during the car show for about 5 mins, but my buddy said the o2 sensor will mess up my car and make it run in "limp mode" my question is can i run open headers on my 1994 525i, I believe its an M50. I think i can but i dont want to mess up my computer/DME by putting my car in "limp Mode" and my other question is will the O2 sensor really do anything if its disconnected?
    Thanks
    -Troy

Either send a fake O2 signal, disable the O2 sensor in your software, or do not bother disconnecting the sensor. Your only option then is to disconnect post sensor, and if your M50 wins the "meanest sounding engine" competition I am worried for the future of the car community sir.

Yeah, not worth it. Somebody's gonna show up with an uncorked SBC or Hemi and it'll be all over.

You could just disconnect the sensor without unbolting any of the exhaust, just to see how the car behaves.

You clearly haven't driven, much less heard one. It's unbelievable how much noise 1.1 liters can make. No exhaust valves to muffle the noise definitely contributes to the racket.

It's "MEANEST" sounding engine, not loudest.....

remove rear muffler, and run pipes out the back, mean and loud.

Oh I didn't say they made a nice noise (though I happen to like it). They just make a LOT of it for their size is all. Most wouldn't consider it stereotypically "mean," though, so never mind...

    He is correct sam son.
It is not a pleasant sound to my ear but they make a lot of noise. I had the pleasure of being up close and personal with this(first pictured) one while it was in Chicago being prepared for display at the Chicago Auto Show. It did a little street driving. http://speedhunters.com/archive/2009...-the-salt.aspx

uncork the exhaust post cats and remove it.

It will sound just like my old un muffled Ford 8N tractor.

However, revved up it sounds perversely fun.

That video is such a letdown. How can you film your open exhaust car and not rev it past 2K? Fail.
