painters seems to be alike all over the world. Such a great project with sooooo much effort put into it and then these idiots are not able to remove some tiny plastic bits to do a proper paint job.
I'm talking about the plastic nuts where the front headlight grill mounts to.
I assume you're not mounting the wiper mechanism anymore or is it currently under refurbishment?
Here a picture of a pre 1982 (background) and a after 1982 set. Do you know the difference? Well, I guess you do.
One trick to clean the lamps inside (your's don't seem to need it though):
Fill them with distilled water and put a pill which is used to clean 3rd teeth into it. Then let it sit over night. Next day flush it with plenty of distilled water and then dry it. As long as the reflector is not corroded they'll be like new afterwards.
ahhh the painter .... quite interesting "person" also... i'm quite angry with this "professional" by now.
He brings the doors and another parts of the car last week, and they paint with another color!!!!!!!!!!!
it's seem inka-orange, but more lighter, tomorrow he will pick up all the parts and the car to make the fine-tune of the first paint and re-paint the other parts ...
The curios thing of the paint-world, is that the painter only have to make 2 things... search for the correct color, and paint... only this, it's seems easy, no?
By now i the last paint job he will make for me (and for my bmw-friends...)
Well at last is "only" another delay , but it's quite interesting to see that you put the maximum effort in it, and then a third, make what they want and also in no proper way
to make a theme change, the wiper mechanism will not be mounted, i supose i will sell it when the car is finished, with many things

Damned, you must have used the same guy who did my 850
Exactly the same happened to me. This idiot painted all the parts separately and when I assembled the car I had various shades of yellow. So he got the car for a partial re paint. His first attempt failed big time because he used water based paint (original paint was "classic" acrylic paint) which looked completely different so he had to sand it down again. His 2nd attempt worked out but he of course did NOT remove all the trim parts etc. but masked them with tape. Now he has the problem to get rid of the overspray which of course occurs. I still owe him €500,- but he's not going to get this money until the job is done properly. And tell me about delays......
I agree, the paint shop's job seems to be easy and those guys with years of experience should definitely know how to NOT DO IT. I guess all the solvents just eat the brain with the years. It is so damned hard to find REAL professionals. For my next full repaint I know what to watch out for and I will instruct the painter exactly how to do it - if he likes it or not. Or even better I learn to do the job myself
I have two machine shops I'm cooperating with in terms of my rim business. These guys are so far the only ones not only doing perfect work but even being inventive. So much fun to do brain storming with them when I have a crazy idea again - like adapting the BBS RS mesh dish to Styling 5 centers with full alloy hex nut
Step one with original plastic center
Step 2 with BBS RS mesh dish (1st prototype not yet finished)
Great tip for cleaning the lights, thanks!
I was going to put them in the oven to seperate the lenses.
Now I'll try denture cleaner.
rear axle done he/she is on his/her wheels. By the way i have to put a name in the car ... and suggerations?
some examples from my friends:
orangina
jagger
bella machina
Now the the car is in the paint shop again
next week more to come... this weekend, relax working in my real work
juajuajuajua
can this girl come to the team? he knows the colors
If SHE is on your team can I join too.
No name for the car.
one question to the all... any place to buy some sport struts (front and back)
i found this in ebay germany (from wiechers sports in very good price)
http://cgi.ebay.es/WIECHERS-Alu-Domstrebe-BMW-E12-E24-E28-hinten-NEU-/260618068610?pt=Autoteile_Zubeh%C3%B6r&hash=item3c ae0c2282
but i don't like Wiechers, one time i have contact with them with quite a bad result ... any other options e24-pre model (e12 chassis)?
thanks in advance
Bert has some brand new bilsteins that got jammed from sitting. He had or is having them rebuilt, and he says he doesn't want to use them. You might try contacting him.
maybe i don't write correctly, i mean struct bars, like this one
and the back one
thanks!
my experience with strut bars for the rear isn't the best either, but it was a Walloth & Nesh at that time. Didin't fit at all. I could imagine that these old cars get soft over the years and none of the original body masses are as they should anymore. I would consider having one custom made tailored exactly for your car
any advise for some good brake-lines?
i found Goodrige in uk that seems ok.
http://www.potn.co.uk/bmw-635i-19781...6_p1224660.htm
in ebay i found some another brands [silverstone , apex]
can any help with this "decision"?
BTW: The car is painted at last
Happy new year to you and all the e24 fans!
I have 2 set of oem brakes-lines, but i want to see more options, and experiences with that Types of pieces
working and working ... the car is "at last" painted and we are working in differential and rear-axle this week , but i write because i have another question (),
