Not a bad idea; but... Im thinking that the integrated mic won't work to well in the car.
I have some nice noise cancelling mics if you decide to go that way. Cheap too. Around $40 or so.

Edit: nevermind what I said about the mic. I forgot you had an ipad. I saw the Jon Stewart clip that summed it up well.

    That's amazing! I'm super impressed!

I just hope I never see a thread "some douchebag smashed my window and stole my iPad" because I bet it would look pretty inciting to someone walking past.

I really hope nobody breaks in for that...I would tiny my front windows to some degree at least...a future ticket for dark front window tint seems like a small price to pay when compared to the alternative.

Major props on the work, outstanding.

    It looks like it's removable.

I also hope to avoid that thread...

It is removable, and I have tint. So, the anti-theft plan it to remove it in any questionable area and lock it in the trunk or take it with me.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words...

The solution is probably going to be external using a Bluetooth adapter designed to connect to an exiting car stereo via an Aux input.

The plan is to then get a source selector that can be controlled by the mute wire of the bluetooth kit... I will have to use a relay because the switch is controlled by a "+" signal and the mute lines are a "-" output.

The source selector will autmagically switch to the bluetooth kit when a call is coming in... It would be a lot cleaner to have something pop up on the screen of the iPad saying who is calling...etc. But, because of the limitations of the iPad I will just have a stand alone bluetooth setup...

    Hiya

Excellent overall, proves things can be done !

here's a little gadget! nicely priced too! in the USA I think you can pick it up via Amazon.com for like $50!

    http://www.dabs.com/products/belkin-...ver--6N6K.html

Bluetooth reciever and it can output to RCA/Phono connectors! it does need a power supply though, but i'm sure a 12V supply taken from in the car would make it work.

For me, I'm going to be using two Android based 7 inch slate PC's, the Dension Wi-Drive unit, two soild state 64GB or 128GB hard drives alongside an Alpine iVA -W407BT diskless double DIN head unit.

If you did have an OBD2 vehicle you could use that software to pickup engine parameters via a bluetooth OBD2 reader/sender plugged in

    Cheers, Dennis! West London UK!

I got the JL Audio CL-SES source selector finally and It is going to work great! The auto switching is very quick.

Unfortunately the Clarion BLT370 that I ordered will not work... I have no idea why... It connects to the phone and I can control the phone with the unit but I cannot get the sound or mic working...

Tonight I ordered a Parrot MKi9100 from Amazon using Prime... so I will have it Wed!!!

frankly i wouldn't bother with a 3-way. to do it right with the oem speaker locations you will need complex tuning capabilities and i don't believe your budget will allow for that.

if you have heard the jl's and are happy with how they sound, use them.

personally i would be installing a hybrid audio speaker set. on a pinch budget i would be very happy with the entry level imagine line. beyond that clarus is an upgrade still utilizing passive crossovers at a little over double the price.

Awesome man, that's sleek. I hope the next gen ipad won't have different dimensions.

You should make some camouflage out of cardboard and duct tape to cover that up when you park.

It is the original iPad. Unfortunately none since then have the same width. So I’m stuck with some old apps!!!! Still works great though.
