My old console without the trim.

An OEM blue boot may be hard to source (just a guess I never looked). I know the correct OEM gray boot I needed was available but was to expensive to justify.

Some of the cars with blue interior had black shift boots. The change occurred sometime in 85.

OK, Thank you. That's good news; one less item I need to scrounge up.

ShapeShifter, I have a plastic (as opposed to leather-covered) console so mine may be slightly different. There's also a lot of black trim in my interior so I think a black boot would look fine.

I also found this place that makes boots; no idea about their quality, but might be worth looking into.

There is a UK seller on eBay called "the-tuning-shop-team" that can custom-make a shift boot for you. I've got them on 4 of my cars. They can use whatever material you like and whatever color stitching you prefer, including leather and alcantara in many colors. I think I paid ~$25 shipped for the boot on my 635 (black alcantara/black stitching), and delivery time was about 10 days. The shifter and handbrake boots on my daily-driver 350Z are about 4 years old and still look brand new. You can contact them directly at grzegorzr@btinternet.com and just mention a previous customer sent you.

Be aware that just about all of the aftermarket shift boots don't come with the plastic base frame, and those are tough to find.

The boot and boot frame are the same regardless of leather or standard console.
A good place to look for parts is mye28.com

You can get new boots in vinyl (imitation leather) from BMW

    The blue is # 25111220678 about $45

The black is # 25111208772 not so cheap

My sincere apologies for being away. The car is fine and still awesome. With the 3.46LSD I can relax on the shifting. Gets lots of looks. My daily driver is a e39, 525i 5 speed. The 635 is a completely more enjoyable drive. Very special. Maybe a couple of outings before she goes to sleep for the winter.

I have the 3.91 LSD if anyone is interested.

Well that sucks, photobucket (pic hosting site) wants $400 a year for picture sharing.

PB has wrecked many threads on countless sites, and they deserve to be out of business for that sort of behavior. $400/yr, if correct, is also an outrageous price, and if they're poor customer care doesn't kill them, that price will. I use SmugMug, and have been hosting my pics there (I'm a very active photographer) for maybe a dozen years, and have had excellent service and reliability. $40/yr gets an unlimited account, there's a free trial available, and if anyone wants a 20% off coupon, use this link https://secure.smugmug.com/signup?Coupon=ZkwVUJ4TqkjvU

I use literally 2% of the available 10GB of the free version, and now they want 400 bucks from me? Just to fix photo links in forums, when I have my own copy of literally every single picture I have there? Gee lemme think about that for a second, okay took a second, GTFOH PhotoSuckIt.

Even with all this nonsense, if they stopped panicking and asked guys like me for a couple bucks a month, I would see that as completely fair and sign up in a heartbeat. It can't be free forever, I get that. But if they're making this kind of demand without any advance warning, they're either intentionally trying to kill the site, or investor returns have come due and they're desperate for cash right now.

I guess at at some point I'll figure out what old threads I want to fix. And it sucks for all of us shade treee mechanics that rely heavily on forums like these to guide us through DIY repairs and projects. But I'm genuinely angry for the people that have pics essentially being held hostage by the ransom demand level payment.

I have so many threads on various forums with hundreds of pictures. No way I am going to fix them. It really is a shame. Also, I agree i would pay about $30 bucks year for the service but, $400? GTFO

My M5 is currently getting paint. Then a new AC system and euro jet coat headers. I also have e34 cams to drop in. Then, I get to redo the leather interior. I changed to gray, now I’m going black. A road ahead of me for sure
