    e39 (523i/528i) instrument cluster test

Hi all, I've found how to do the instrument cluster test on my e36 and the e53, but on the e39 early models there is only one button on the left (reset trip meter button) on the instrument panel, thus I can't find out how to run the gauge test and get all the info (vin/build date etc) displayed out.

Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

    Thanks, Andrew.

I believe I copied & saved that info from one of the many PDF files on www.e38.org & www.e38.org/e39 that have been there for years. The info comes from some BMW tech info about electronics (MFL, audio, instrument clusters, etc) that's been posted around the internet.
