I'm building a hotrod e21 with a 2.7 m20 and some cool stuff. Just figured I'd document some of the process. I Have a lot of resources seeing that I work at a well known BMW restoration and Race shop in Connecticut. Please feel free to ask any questions.
Car is from cali and has no rust. Paints a bit faded on the roof and lids from the sun but I like the patina. It's a great starting point. It's also a 78 and a awesome color.
Here are some pictures of the car when purchased.
First thing I took care of was the god awful ride height and US bumpers. I also Blasted and painted my wheels gold and polished the lips (still not sue if it was worth it). I'll find some picture and post them up tomorrow.

Very cool, can't wait to see it as you go along.
YES! Please document your project, it should turn out nice!!!
Do you work at Sports Car Restoration? I know they are a very good BMW shop here in CT. I have yet to see their shop in person, but I bet its got some cool stuff in it. In fact, I can already see some cars I'd like to call my own in the background of the pics you posted! I used to do autobody myself for a short time. Its what I went to school for and then later I got into the restoration side of the business. I got out of it though when I was offered a job working for Sikorsky as an aircraft mechanic on Black Hawk helicopters. I miss being around cars all the time, but working on helicopters isn't too bad either I guess!
BTW, what type of 2.7 build are you doing? That's what I have in my car at the moment (2.7L bottom end with a later Euro E30 323i 731 head) and its a lot of fun!
