Used some hard rubber sheeting to firm up the center console. Used the rubber as a shim between the top edge of the console and the bottom of the dash. Happy with the results.

    Zender

I got rid of the "overbite" today. After converting to Euro bumpers a couple of years ago, I decided to install the Zender rear valance. Here are some before and after pictures - although on a black car it wasn't really that bad. Now I am ready for Monterey next week...

Anyone here ever rebuild a steering rack? I think mine might be needing a little bit of TLC soon.

Tom has. I have a core you could use, I never went for disassembly because I had a known good rack.

    DSCI0330.JPG

To make this clearer , a little back ground, years ago I took a Vocational Course in Collision Repair- two part course- body repair and painting( Modern stuff and Lacquer)- I paid each week for this course- upon graduation I got a certificate, which is a certificate to look for a job, since these courses covered OEM painting and glanced over Custom Paint, I took my certificate and got into a custom paint shop, it went well, He had some 1st places in Hot Rod Shows and is still around, here, after a while I got into Custom Metal Flake,Pearls, and Candy Paint Jobs plus OEM paints--solid colors-I did this at this time as there was no way I could get a compressor to spray a car.

A tid bit some of those Girls Doing the Photo Shoots with some of those Custom Cars-some of them actually own the car and a custom shop that build them.

    Acura Integra Seats 35 USD.jpg

I picked up these seats at the yard, $15 each. They are not Recaros but very good seats with well made mechanisms. I might test fit them into my car. The thing is, the comfort seats, I like the way they look, but you sink down too low, they are too soft, the padding in the seat base is shot and not worth replacing. Anyway I know these are good seats. They are Acura Integra.

I just ordered another spray gun 1.4 HVLP it comes with a regulator. That way I have a new Spray Gun for Primers and Primer Sealers, New One for the Color Coats and one more new one for the Clear Coats-Gloss Coats,,lol this way there is no way to transfer one material from one coat to another coat, even minute particles that escape cleaning some how..lol

I'm looking at BASF-Glasurit paint system also..

The front of the side pieces doesn't need any attachments, just the top and bottom. That way you don't see any screws. Top is covered by the bumper, and to see the the bottom screws you have to crawl underneath.

The clearcoat peel , many of the franchise paint jobs do that due to cheaper paint used, mine developed a matte finish-dull, 2 coat system is much better,,base- then clear, rather than base and clear together-clear by itself needs to be 2 mils thick for uv protection of the paint job.

Went to see my indi where i normally fix my classics when needed. Just a courtesy visit to introduce my new baby, a 1982 318i. After a well trained look including undercarriage and engine, his veredict:

”It is the best maintained old car you ever show me, and looks nice too”

i’ve brought him more than 10 good looking classics over the last 10 years, so his statement made my day

I found that BASF-Glasurit has the exact paint made in the liter cans-probably the original paint supplier to BMW, just needs to add chips for Metallic Paint effects or Pearl effects, the complete system is all low VOC and fits the requirements in every stage of the oem-custom refinish job.

How not to pack and ship a transmission

I thought I found a good deal on eBay on a 245 but this is how it arrived. I didn't take out any packing peanuts, the box was just half full. You can see where it was banging against the side of the box.

    IMG_20181015_093950.jpg IMG_20181015_093857.jpg

Already started the claim process with eBay.

For reference, this is how I've shipped transmissions before. Or wrapped it in a plastic bag and filled the sturdy plastic container with expanding foam.

Broken shift shaft hole in the transmission case, that is careless packing.

The engine got pulled and torn down today to replace the head gasket, front cover gaskets, rear main and front crank seal. The head gasket was leaking at the front right side, the crank seal was leaking also

After inspection, the clutch, slave cylinder, water pump, upper timming chain, guide, tensioner are going to get replaced also.

Head will be checked and leveled if needed but no valve job. Said there was no evidence of oil burning and the valves had no movement.

Back home from the holidays, we got the 323i picked up and loaded up on a dolly. Big thanks to U-Haul for saying a 2008 Mercedes GL450 with a 7,000 pound towing capacity was not strong enough to pull a 1,000 vehicle trailer with a shell we could lift with our hands. On top of that a 5 hour ordeal to finally get the dolly. We ended up towing the car with unknown wheel bearing condition on the highway in the dark thanks to them.
After a very sketchy two hour drive, she made it home safely.

Today we got the title sorted out and are waiting for the new clean one to come in the mail.
Next step is to take it to McDuffie Auto Body (he’s the guy that Ray Korman recommended us to use) so we can get the drivers side framerail zeroed out.
I’ll start a build thread once we get to a point where I can post consistently.
My brothers and I are toying with the idea of a YouTube channel to record the progress as well.
    What do you guys think?

Replaced the accelerator pedal since the old one snapped at the top and replaced the crumbling bushings in the accelerator levers, much better pedal feel and actuation now (go figure). Discovered a small leak from the clutch master cylinder though...
