    Cool

Put on a couple of Paint Coats on my rebuilt and shop primed Ate Power Brake Booster done by Power Brake Exchange, it fits with the Ate Aluminum Brake Master Cylinder I rebuilt recently for ~$35.

My (recently imported from California) E21 was running cold and had little heat output.

Yesterday I replaced the 71 degree thermostat with an 80 degree. Also replaced the heater control valve which had a slight leak and flushed the heater core. Lot's of rusty looking crud came out but then ran clear. Luckily the core isn't leaking and now have great heat with the temp gauge needle at 12 o'clock. (radiator and water pump were recently replaced)

Interesting - I have never seen these hockey pucks with a slot; could come in handy.

I use hockey pucks on my jacks too. I modified one by drilling a ~1" hole in the center so I can jack the rear sides using the subframe mount. The hole allows the puck to sit flush on the metal plate at the bottom of the mount (the big nut at the bottom fits in the hole). I find this is a very stable way to lift one side of the rear at a time without using the rockers or putting stress on the bushings by using the subframe itself.

Firmed up the center console by shimming the small gap between the top of the console and the bottom of the dash. Used some small shims made from red plastic that I found at a hardwood store.

Found a Bosch Vacuum Advance unit for $20 including shipping, Came in Bosch retail box-one left on amazon for near $20 inc ship, I pulled the distributor and exchanged the old one for the new one, while I was in there I used CRC Silicon Spray good to 400F to lubricate the centrifugal weights that slide on a platform and there spring and the turning shaft portion, careful with the bow when taking it out- the connector to ignition module, they are not ev1 connector bows they are taller and slimmer and are NLA, No 17 in the diagram. The price on these vacuum advances goes from $20 inc shipping to $100, roller coaster pricing. My old vacuum advance works, yet has seen better days. Distributors with centrifugal weights and springs require cleaning and lubrication every now and then. I tested the coil and it was close to new coil in the Kilo ohms area.

Changed out the sway bar to control arm nuts[above] and set torque to 61 ft lbs, set torque for nuts securing the control arm to cross member at same torque, adjusted the fan belt with the new hardware much easier , when the toothed nut is turned the alternator pivots and the fan belt tightens. Using my Ridgid Cordless Impact wrench's X4( 325 ft lbs) and Gen5x(450 ft lbs,4 settings) speeds up the work, removing and installing lug nuts , ect, the LSA-Lifetime Service agreement is one of a kind--they cover normal wear items as well. I have LSA on both. Gen5X just released is there flag ship model with more enough torque for these cars any nut or bolt, the X4 is enough as well.. Oh the battery charger and impact have LSA status as well.. when get as a kit.

Washed my white "83 at the local carwash then took it for a drive to dry it. Keeping cars clean and dust free here in north Texas is a constant chore and something of a fool's errand.

Bought 4 new "Westlake RP18 Touring Radial Tire - 185/70R13" $37 apiece on Amazon with free shipping for Prime members.

Not too concerned that I haven't heard of Westlake tires before, reviews seemed pretty positive and I figure they've gotta be an improvement over the 7-year-old Kumho Solus tires on there (plenty of tread left but the sidewalls were starting to dry-rot).

Took the loose wheels to a local tire shop for mounting and balancing ($20 apiece M+B plus $4/each disposal fee) - I don't trust anyone else to put it on a lift or tighten the wheels for me anymore!

When they finished, I pointed out that they had only lined up the paint mark with the valve stem on 2 of 4 tires. To their credit they owned up to their mistake and fixed it instead of arguing with me like the last place I bought tires from.

Hey, me too! I also put on a new 90 degree elbow and white silicone hose for the vacuum retard (just for looks, plugged the other end and let it dangle, because my car actually runs better without it

Yesterday before reinstalling my wheels (new tires installed), I removed the rear brake pads and discovered the caliper sliders were barely doing that anymore; which might explain my inconsistent mild leftward brake pull..

didn't have a lot of time to pull it all apart, so I just sprayed some penetrating cable lube on the sliders (goes on like water, thickens up like grease in 15 minutes or so)

then wire brushed the exposed slider areas and worked the caliper back and forth with a rubber hammer 40 or 50 times until it loosened up pretty well and I could do it by hand.

Cleaned the other areas where the pads have metal-metal contact against the caliper, and installed new pads with a thin schmear of synthetic grease in those same areas.

Finally installed all four wheels and torqued to 70 ft lb.

Removed the engine compartment cover to gain access to the heater fan. Vacuumed out the area, got some oil on the motor shafts and eliminated that incessant chirping from the motor. It's so quiet now on low speed I had to check that it was actually working.

Except I put in a new Bosch distributor vacuum advance with it...

Car experiencing small surges when running, had to wait for failure, this morning would not start, did the electrical tests all good, turned on the fuel pumps and main fuel pump was out-zero sound and vibration, Put in a New Bosch Fuel Pump, had it as a spare stored away -- fuel pressure at the fuel distributor 70 psi, BFP runs quiet,,Car started right up. all in all about 2 -2 1/2 hours diagnosis ,fuel pump replace(with new bmw hose section at y connector to fuel pump) and back on the road.

Started at 10:30 and finished up at 5:00 today:

Touch up the paint chips, installed a new air filter, changed the oil and filter, installed the winter wheels, cleaned the wheel wells and wheels/tires, waxed areas that were out of the paint chip areas, vacuumed the interior, cleaned ther mats, seats, dash and steering wheel, head liner and cleaned all the glass.
