hey guys, does anyone have any pics of an e36 with modified style 5 rims. im thinking of changing my back 2 style 5 wheels in to a 3-piece by changing the barrel and adding a wider lip...i wonder if it would give it the staggered look...please comment and post pics if u have any.
buying a set of 17" rs's and then making them wider and also powdercoating them to the look i want will not be cheaper....i just want to do the two back wheels...i just wonder if the concept will work...i've seen pics of a style 5 with stepped lip in europe but not actually on a car...i wonder if it would stick out too much?
This is what im talking about!

uhh custom barrels are 700+
custom lips are 550+
just for a pair....RSs are cheaper and look better imo.
Why not get a pair of 9x17 ET22 Style 5s imported? They are pretty easy to come by here in europe... most are complete sets with a pair of 8s for the front included as well, though...
www.wokke.de Is the only place that has custom style5s.
They might be easy to come by in europe but im in Toronto and that shit aint easy to find around here...and it would cost me an arm and a leg to import it from europe...on a different thought do you guys think it would be possible to cut the 8x17 style 5 barrel where its welded to the lip and just use the face and the barrel with an aftermarket wider lip...let me know if there is any experts out there.
i made a thread about some epilson southern ways last week, and people said the faces were reversable (meaning unbolt rivets flip face bolt rivets) and someone mentioned the same can be done with style 5's. not sure the truth. If it is true you would have a massive lip/offset, that most likely wouldnt fit.
Old thread, but I thought these turned out pretty well...
OEM BMW 17" style 5's custom rebarreled to 18"
18x10.5 +22 (3.5" lip)
18x12 +17 (4.5' lip)

Looks awesome, Tim!! Are those going on the beast in place of the Alpina's?
You can just widen the back ones to 10 in. some people say you can add the 2in on the lip side, but ive only seen style 5s widened to 10 in adding 2in on the barrel side. I got quoted 500 ea to make the style 5s into 3 piece. Fckn nuts, believe it was memory fab.
For now, im just gonna run 10mm spacers in the back
Old thread but I'm currently building 3 piece style 5's, anyone else doing the same?
My current project with modified style 5's

I’m thinking about doing this
Was going to get a rough set of 17 style 5s and order new lips and barrels, stepping them up to 28s with a reverse lip
I havnt priced anything yet
But I expect it to be cheaper than buying rc 061s which are worth 2k
youre better off buying the 061's .... the people who make the "kits" to do this charge about $3500 for them.. cant remember the website now, but i'll look for it

Ahh, I didn't realise the conversion was so expensive! The 061's would probably hold their value better too. In the meantime I'm going with diamond cut parallels with no lacquer

Reach out to Paul at ewheelworks before you totally scrap the idea. It may be more affordable than you think. It's worth a quick email

I'm currently in the process of machining the back side of the style 5 face so it can be used for a 3 piece wheel
