I've been talking with hoveringuy again, he's close to having his running just about perfectly so he'll be sending me his project file so I can get going with just a narrowband O2 sensor for now. I'm not sure exactly when I'll be ready to put the motor in though.

sorry to hear about the e46. The e30 is a solid car for this type of swap. Last model before BMW started to cut corners on the chassis.

Thread title is actually inaccurate now, the M54 is going into my E24, the M30B34 out of the E24 is going into the E30 with a nasty turbo.

Why do you want to put SUPER HEAVY engine+Turbo even heavier on a very light car called E30 ???

How about if you just put tubo on your E24 and make it usable power Monster!

I have done heavy engine in E30 and I was not happy at all !

The M30 in E30 feels like the manager of the tools called "Hummer" all the weight is at the end/front of the car.

A friendly advice, swap the M54 in your E30 and go to the track and have super fun with the car. It will be very balanced, torque, aluminum block light weight, vanos, light reving engine, you can put close ratio tranny for example E36 M3 5 speed or E46 M3 6 speed.

    Cheers

yes. manager of tools called hummer, best quote for a long time.

leave the m30 in the shark and boost the shark, put m54 into e30 and have a beautiful e30.

m54 (alu block 24v) is the only way to swap a e30 and still keep the handling balance of the m20 in place.

Also, the M54 will be very easy swap ! If I am not mistaken M54 is from the S50, M50 engine family means you can use the original engine brackets to your E30 swap. M54 will be veeeery easy swap.

M30 to swap in the E30 with turbo will be very bad fit in the engine bay... The M30 is much bigger/longer block than M20 M50... engine family...

Trust me I have done this before ! Even if your m30 engine is out its not too late to put it back and put turbo and make it E24 MONSTER with usable power ! E24 can candle lots of power vs E30 can not handle lots of power...

    Cheers

I agree with Anri ,, but the wiring is the biggest challenge

i have an S38B38 in my e30 cabrio ,, and that engine is slightly heavier vs M30.. but the volume of the engine under the hood is colossal

A M54B30 .. with light flywheel and some minor remap is a stunning choice for E30 IMO

This thread took off since the last time I checked it I came back to say I was going with my original plan, to put the M54 in the E30. This will allow me to do the swap without any down time for my DD(the E24). I need to buy new mounts though, the E30 ones were hosed. I also will have one change the brake booster in the E30 now... Hopefully around the first of the month I'll be able to put the engine in... Gonna have to refresh the E30's suspension too, the only thing good on it is the shocks!

M3 is a little different... You might do a search for a guy who is doing the swap in an e36 - he's got a line on a way to do it using the stock DME.

Purchased a 325iX brake booster today. Engine and trans mounts need to be purchased as well. Will be going urethane on both.

Just bought a little bit of this:

    https://www.revshift.com/shop/24v-sw...flex-disc.html

And a little bit of that:

    https://www.revshift.com/shop/motor-...or-mounts.html
    https://www.revshift.com/shop/trans-...1983-1991.html

Now my question is, will the brake reservoir/master cylinder from the eta bolt to the 325iX booster or will I need to source that as well? I'm sure I'll find out when it gets here but it's nice to be prepared.

Not sure I'm going to be going up to New Jersey but I have been working on my E30. Been working on pulling the dash out, going to finish removing the interior over this week. As soon as I get the dash out I'll be installing the brake booster, though I still need to pick up the master cylinder since the stock eta one won't work with the iX booster...

Well, started installing the brake booster today since I have the master cylinder now... Realized I'll need to shorten and thread the shaft so I have enough adjustability for the pedal...

I'm still not sure why exactly I'm supposed to use a remote reservoir, the only thing I can assume is it's because of the location of the E30's power steering reservoir but if that's the case then it's no issue because the M54's reservoir is a part of the engine assembly so I don't have to use the stock E30 location. The E34 reservoir also appears to clear the hood so I doubt that's the issue...

Just cut this out of some cutting board. Adapter plate/gasket for the E34 M50 throttlebody to mate it to the M54 manifold.

Still working on fitting my brake booster. I modified the fork hoping it'd give me enough room to just bolt it in, unfortunately it still wasn't enough so I'll need to thread more of the boosters' shaft and shorten it a little bit more.

Just moved the hole back some and notched the inside of the fork just a little bit more so it'd accept the brake pedal lever. Used an X bit from my machinists bit set to drill it, was the exact diameter of the original hole.

325iX brake booster is in, swap can finally move forward!

More parts incoming. Aluminum radiator and fuel pressure regulator should be here soon. Still need to pick up an Innovate LC-1 wideband...
