Good Morning Terra,
Unfortunately, it is only compatible with the new Fxx chassis'. This is because BMW is moving towards the
ASAM MCD-2D standard for diagnostic data, otherwise known as
ODX (
Open
Diagnostic e
Xchange).
If you look at the Fxx data contained within the
ISTA-P discs, you will see that it is in a
PDX (
Packed O
DX) format, a compressed version of ODX. These files only contain information in a XML format, the data files (
SWE) being contained in separate files and are only referenced from the ODX file. In the ODX format, multiple layers are defined which contain the different types of information.
Within
ESG's
E-Sys, the
ODX-Charger performs the task of integrating the particular layers into one useable
ODX-Container (Diag-Layer-Container, Comparam-Spec, Vehicle-Info-Spec and Multiple-Ecu-Job-Spec). A flash layer is assembled by the ODX-Charger, from selected SWE's. The SWE's are incorperated into the ODX-Container as
MSR and
BSW files. A BSW is a
.ZIP archive that contains binary flash data and an XML file containing header information.
Because E-Sys is only intended for use in BMW plants, on specific Fxx series production lines, it therefore only needs to utilise the single ODX format (Note: Ediabas has recently been upgraded to allow comunication via Ethernet, for use on Exx chassis vehicles with CIC). Of course, because it is to be used in dealers, ISIS can make use of both the new and old formats, albeit with much less scope for programming/coding, than the factory software.

I would also recommend looking into
DTS (

Testing
System)
Monaco by Softing (See attached PDF). This is Softing's version of E-Sys, also using ODX files and compatible with SAE J2534-1 passthru interfaces (you can also add your own specific devices).
I hope that all of the above, makes some sort of sense and is not too boring for people...
Kind Regards,
FAL
