no noise at the fuel pump when the key is turned all the way foward. how can i test it and check things like the relay and such. pump fuse is good. i opened the access civer to look at the pump, appears good. tested for voltage at teh pump connector and got 10 volts. which relay is for the fuel pump.
pull the back seat and check for power and ground at the pump.

You work hard, discover that success is not a destination but rather a road you travel upon- mostly up hill. Then, after a while, people going down the other road look up at you, and they call you "lucky."
theres good power and ground. should there be power at pin 2 when key is foward? there isnt but thats when i test it and its unplugged. i remember someone waying you can only test for power when its plugged into the fuel pump.

So is the engine cranking?
yea, tries to start wheni spray starter fluid in, but diesnt stay cause theres no fuel. i dont understand, it was pumping fuel when i took the old motor out, why would it suddenly quit. fuel pump wont humm or turn on at all. swapped the green relay, no change. checked fuses, both are good. this is pissing me off.
cmon guys, HELPS!

check for voltage at pump... if none there check for voltage at the relay... let us know what you find...

EDT: report back the battery voltage, voltage at the pump, voltage at each side of the relay...

Does it smell like gas under the hood? Make sure the fuel lines are ok.
check for a small ground cable somewhere by the engine , it happened to me before , i snapped it while taking out the engine and forgot to put it back together when i installed the new one , everything worked except for the fuel pump it took me like an hour to figure out what the heck was wrong with the car.
Good luck finding it
the strap snapped when i took out the motor. but i crimped it back together. the fuel lines are good mojo. im gonna try tapping the pump tomorrow.
My friend rrse38 has a Snap on tablet code reader and he tested my fuel pump with car off ... It was frkn trippy as u can hear the fuel pump working...only prob was when. I started the car it wouldn't settle as th engine went into a spaz and the enginefailsafe mode kicked in....all it did was rev, rev, rev, rev and nvr setttle...after I truned it off and re connected the snap on tablet and cleared the codes...and whew!!! Back to normal......why did we test the fuel pump??? For the fun of it...

hey man i had the same thing go bad car would crank but not start, no power at fuel pump.... crank sensor!!!!!!
ive got an extra. ill swap tommorrow
Do a search, SDmike had the same issue and made an excellent post about this
Have a technical question, don't send me a PM but post it on the board so others can benefit from it!
so did u ever figure it out?? inquiring minds want to know!!!
no, i went out this morning and turned the ignition on and banged on the fuel tank but the pump still didnt run. im confused though, if the key is turned all the way foward to right before it cranks, the fuel pump is supposed to run right? well maybe im not hittin the tank hard enough or somethin and i didnt try the spare crank sensor yet.
i am telling u man ur wasteing ur time... change the crank sensor
ok, so your telling me that the crank sensor will prevent the pump from turning on at all?
yes... i have been down this road.....the car will crank.. no fuel no spark! just crank and kill the battery
k i will swap it out first thing tomorrow morn. if it works ill pm u a million dollars.
rich..... what will i buy.........
ok, so i went to replace my crank sensor today, only to find a stripped bolt. so after much drilling i successfully removed it and swapped it with a good one. i soon found out that the crank sensor was plugged into the knock sensor jack on the harness! that explains alot! but i swapped the sensor for my old one anyway and now my battery is almost dead. so i jumped it but i still dont ahve enough amps to start, just enough to run accesories and lights n stuff. but i turned my key all the way foward and still no fuel pump sound. will i actually have ot crank the car to get it going since i swapped the crank sensor or what?
so...what happened?
Selling a ZF transmission kit!!! PM me.
I'd also like to know what the resolution was, im having a very similar problem.
