Hi. Could you tell me what was wrong ?
I'm in similar situation now. I have two modules (E39 HW03 SW07 , E46 HW04 SW08).
Both were coded to use with my engine M43 manual & MFSW
I have added cruise control to SA.
I've attached bulb to indicate CC running.
I can turn it on but it does not keep speed and after speed drops below about 5kmph, CC light goes off.
I'm pretty sure wiring is ok.
There's no stored errors in GR2 (checked with PASoft,my inpa doesn't connect to GR2)
I've also read some information with Tool32. GR2 reads well status of clutch pedal, brake pedal, all MFSW buttons, speed (it reads speed good while driving, while stopped it reads 6kmph)
The reason mine didnt work, being it very embarrassing, was because I didnt connect the inner throttle cable to the cruise control actuator. I only connected the inner cable to my throttle body but thought that the plastic housing would magically let the throttle cable fall into place. Thats not the case, you need to connect the cable yourself before connecting the plastic housing. Took me another e36 to figure out hahaha
You're talking about bowden cable right? Its connected in my car.
Should gr2 be connected with ews?
I have no idea What i did wrong
EWS has nothing to do with CC.

Do you have access to inpa? You can monitor what the cc system is doing. Car does not have to be recoded for this, you can always select the cc module to read its status
My INPA does not want to connect with GR2, don't remember exact error. Which INPA version are you using?
I can connect with GR2 using tool32
Here's example
I can connect also with PASoft but it does not support live dataCode:apiJob("GR2","status_lesen","","") Satz : 0 OBJECT = gr2 SAETZE = 1 JOBNAME = status_lesen VARIANTE = GR2 JOBSTATUS = UBATTCURRENT = 1 UBATTHISTORY = 1 IGNITIONCURRENT = 1 IGNITIONHISTORY = 1 Satz : 1 JOB_STATUS = OKAY STAT_FGRMOT_MINUS_AKTIV = 0 00 00 .. Like i earlier said, MFSW buttons works ok, speed read ok, brake / clutch pedal read ok.
I know it from Tool32. What more should i check ?
Nothing really, this is the only thing besides that you need to connect that automatic gearbox pin to ground...
Thought you mentioned having a clutch!?
Is the clutch pedal sensor hooked up?

Yes, i have manual transmission, engine M43B16
i have attached clutch sensor and it works good.
Should PIN5 (gear selector lever) be grounded or not connected in manual transmission ?
Pins i have connected: 1, 2, 3, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26

I’m not aware of any gear selector wire, only that on autoboxes you get a connector to bridge the clutch switch.
I’ll check the ETM for the answer.

I’ll check the ETM for the answer. Pin 7 of the old module needs to be connected to 5. Although the way it’s listed, not connecting it should keep cruise on.

Please look at this attachments
In E38 CC is connected to EWS. That's why i ask about PIN5, should it be grounded?
ewsE38.pdfccA8_E38.pdf
It's gearbox related, not EWSII. On the E36 there is no connection like this and not needed to make it work. And it's only for automatics. On my SMG I did connect the old 7 to new module pin 5.

Hi,
i bought some stuff for my e36 323i M52 to retrofit Tempmat and MFL.
I converted my e36 steering wheel and added e46 MFL Button`s (before Facelift 99)
So i read this Thread and find out i bought some false items:
I bought a cruise actuator from a 523i with m52 (right Motor Type) but with round 7 Pin Plug.
Can anyone confirm this actuator work too???
Pin Assignment the same?
And the next false buying was the old Cruise Control Modul
65718369062 from e38/39 (HW3/SW5 or so)
There are two questions about the CCM from e46
Is the wiring diagramm the same as the never one listed here in the Thread?
Should i need the CruiseControl Switch to activate the Modul?
Sorry for my bad English.
Best Regards
Actuators are all the same. Only later models come with a connector with smaller pins. If you have a round connector with big pins, you are fine. The only thing that is different is the throttle cable. The GR2 module needs coding to match you car's engine. It will work without, but operation will be muc smooter.
If you have the older module, you will need a separate switch to turn the GR2 module in stand-by mode.
For the wiring, you need to check this topic, which has much more info.

This was originally an Email i wrote for lovnbmws but I think it has good info for everyone so I'll share it here:
From what I understood (and got excited when I saw your pics, since I haven't seen anyone with post '00 Wheel controls yet in E36) you bought E39 wheel control from a '00+ car..
Reason your wiring information was important to me is that I retrofitted an almost new Gen3 3-spoke 2003 M5 steering wheel to my '99 E36 328is. It took a bit of milling to make the regular (e36 style) e38 7-wire slipring work like stock (I have a /M Gen1 3-spoke as a reference). I chose the Gen3 /M over the ease of just putting in a Gen1 because its a rare 'plushy fat' steering wheel, they must've added some nice padding under the leather it feels like squeezing a soft silicone...something. I also have a 2004 M3 style 3-spoke wheel with the plushy leather and a '02 M3 3-spoke without 'plushy' leather, so its not a regular /M thing just an option I suppose or maybe last years of production sort of thing. The Gen1 and Gen2 3-spoke wheels on e36/z3 are hard and dried on leather looking. I did use my Gen1 airbag of course to make it work, no mod needed there. Anyway enough about that..
Btw I refer to the '96-'98 z3 3-spoke as Gen-1 (single stage airbag, no controls) Gen2 is the '98-'00 dual stage with controls, and i guess gen3(which i made up) is this special plushy leather wheel style.
I wanted to ask if you ever got around to making your cruise control wiring work through the wheel, my car is canadian and came fully loaded with CC already. Now I've read many threads from our members that have done this mod..the smart and easy way but im not headed in that direction using the '03 controls. So I'm afraid if I order the modules regularly used by the members here, they wont work with this K-bus signal generated as e36/early e39 uses i-bus for the systems (not super sure on the e39 part, maybe its bi-compatible).
Also I'm obsessed with exploring rare options of our cars and one thing planned is a S54 swap, using factory e36 parts, into the e36. I just finished my Getrag420 6speed swap (went 420G SMG to manual conver. and then my 328is was auto and I swapped 6MT directly, I will make a real comprehensive guide later, from ones already alive).
So in digging for info on my "s54 factory e36 swap" I ran into '00+ Z3s.. because they run M54-S54 engines after '00-'01 (pretty rare in Canada but not rare in US). But all m54 powered Z3's run a very special cluster... its fully compatible with E36 i-bus, plug and play but it run K-bus translation for bi-compatibility oh yeah and where diesels have a injector warm-up logo..these have a factory CC logo! because they run i-bus/k-bus CC, both signals are interpreted by the cluster and translated to one another for the various modules, like say DSC in e46 m3 to swap into our late model e36 (late model because 97+ have 4 individual brake lines already, pre '96 have 3 lines only, the rear line is 'T' shared in the back..).
Also another easy swap is the pedal assembly, everyone uses the e46 pedal for the s54 swap, which sucks. E36M SMG use drive by wire BUT have a special large potentiometer beside the gas pedal to give input to the SMG TCU, also the Z3M S54 uses only that same SMG style potentiometer for the MSS54 ECU because the S54 is fly by wire (they have different PN on realoem but thats because of the connector plug, wiring and potentiometer are identical). You can have an S54 drive by wire/fly by wire system together using the e36 SMG pedal assembly...would require a bit of signal tuning on ecu side for response but easy to find parts in europe wreckers online, or go easy e36 factory fly by wire only using american wreckers for '00-'02 Z3 potentiometer (any M54, doesnt need to be S54 as they are all fly by wire).
Careful some Z3 '00 are split year, so the Z3M's '00 are all S52 powered (not useful for the above) but the 2.5L are M54 from 2000-2002, I think only '01-'02 are S54 Z3M's.
Theres more but this was alot.. Also I just came across this thread and will be attempting my corrected wheel lighting wiring tonight ( I also wired it wrong now that I see your post) and will report with pics of everything I mentioned tonight or tomorrow.

Hi there!
I Just retrofitted the mfsw to my e36. Its a 6 cylinder b20 from '97, and it has got a cruise control luckley from factory.
My question is, what type of cruise control modul do i need?
I have a I/O typed wheel, so I think I need the hw08 version, but I cant find the wiring diagram for it. Could you pls help me?
