Kevin Kreisa (DTRguy) of DTR Performance and driver Anthony Magagnoli (Z3SpdDmn) are currently 1st in class (SSGT2 Small Bore) and 10th place overall standings in the 2010 One Lap of America in a highly modded 1990 BMW 325iS that Kevin built.
They had a rough start with the wet skid pad, placing 53 out of 68, but really redeamed themselves when Anthony took to the Road Courses. He got 7th place overall on both the short course and long course events at Road America, and 6th place overall at both Mid America events. Even with a spin in the morning session at Hallet, Anthony managed a 12th place finish for the morning event, and then came back strong with a 6th place finish in the afternoon event. This puts them ahead of a Porsche GT3 RS, Porsche Turbo, Nissan GT-R, and Z06 and ZR1 Corvettes!
Current standings:
1) Porsche GT2 (Leh Keen)
2) Nissan GT-R
3) C6 Corvette Z06
4) C5 Corvette Z06
5) Porsche 997 Turbo
6) Porsche GT3 RS
7) Mitsubishi Evo X
8) Subaru WRX STi
9) E90 BMW M3
10 E30 BMW 325 (Anthony and Kevin, lol!)
They've arleady got a a couple of mentions in MotorTrend:
MotorTrend - 2010 One Lap of America: The Rise of the Giant-Killers at Mid-America
And another short mention:Yet there were four bewildering performances by newbie teams, aka "Lap Pups" as they're affectionately been dubbed. The highlights follow.
1990 BMW 325is
BMW is easily the most represented brand this year. The One Lap crew is using a fleet of 5 and 3 Series graciously provided by the BMW Performance School, and there's a small army of M-badged coupes and roadsters flooding the pits. The fastest one, though, is a 1990 325is. It's sitting comfy at 12th overall right now after two top ten finishes today.
How? It's stupid fast. "It's above 400-horse -- probably 450 to 500 horsepower," says car owner and builder Kevin Kreisa. The engine is a straight-six from an E36 328i with an 82 millimeter Garrett GT35 turbocharger feeding air to Extrudabody individual throttle bodies. All the plumbing, in fact most of the car, is Kreisa's handiwork: He fabricated it all with hand tools in his shop, DTR Performance.
At 2750 pounds in race trim, the Bimmer's exceptionally light too. Driver Anthony Magagnoli, a regular Spec E30 racer, was "well into fifth" at Road America yesterday, putting speed at above 150 mph.
"I was genuinely concerned for my life," he said -- it was his first time there.
Despite using technology two decades old, first-time One Lappers Magagnoli and Kreisa are clobbering genuine giants. Their cumulative lap times for both events today bested those of both a Porsche GT3 RS and a Turbo.

And they were also in AutoBlog.com.In the midst of all the drama, there are some great performances. Leh Keen and his TopSpeed GT2 ultimately claim the day, but the GT-Rs are nibbling close behind. Dan and Kyle Corcoran are hungry too, and Dan puts his Corvette in the top five in both events. A highly modified but nonetheless late-80's BMW 325is managed to fend off a new Porsche 911 Turbo for seventh in both events.

Good on ya, fellas.
Kevin has been busting his ass building this car for a while. And I am glad to see it performing so reliably. With Anthony in the hot seat, I knew they'd do well. Pretty impressive so far.
Keep it up guys!!!!!

A 14th and a 4th in the drag races now has them tied for 7th place overall (2530
points) !! Not to mentioning leading their class by a huge margin.
Way to go guys, keep it together!

They ran a 12.64@119mph in the drag race with a bogged launch (bogged is better than spinning though). A 119mph is good for LOW 12's. I bet that car could break into the 11's at just under 125mph with drag radials and a good driver (drag racer).
Congrats guy!

BTW, if anyone in the South Jersey area (or willing to travel there) wants to go watch them on Thursday at NJMP, I rented a suite at the track to go hang out in and watch them.

Just read about the Caddy, glad the driver was able to walk away un harmed!
Doubtful Anthony will get Top Dog spot at any event. Leh Keen is driving a modded Porsche GT2 and is currently number 1. Only way would be for the GT2 to break down. Top 5 spot is certainly resonable though. I'd bet on 3rd place as well.

Here is another mention on AutoBlog - One Lap 2010: The Weekend That Was
Got a 5th place finish in both morning and afternoon sessions. This puts them in 8th place overall standings.Perhaps more interesting than the top five finishers is the appearance of some unlikely machinery in the top 10, including the #39 BMW 325is of driver Anthony Magagnoli. The 1990 3 Series seems like an unlikely sixth place finisher, even wearing its period M3 bodywork. But thanks to an extensive diet, and a E36-sourced motor with a Garrett turbo strapped on, the elderly BMW has been surprising more powerful and far costlier machinery since One Lap began. Proving its performance was no fluke, Magagnoli would back up his first run with another sixth place finish.

Thanks for all the supporting words, guys! We're having a great time and we're just thrilled with our standings! Its going to be so nice to hit some tracks I know! (Mid-Ohio, NJMP, Nelsons).
Here's the latest article from MotorTrend:
http://blogs.motortrend.com/6675252/...far/index.html
I have to say we're pretty settled into these 6th place finishes (5th place if the STi with the broken axle doesn't make it back). I would be estatic to have a finish above that, but a lot of people know Mid-Ohio, so we'll see!

MotorTrend - 2010 One Lap of America: The Longest Day, So Far
LMAO! Ever since Anthony started racing I've been telling him that the fastest way around the track is ON THE PAVEMENT! But Noooo, he doesn't want to listen!Trouble brews at turn nine. Cars get light on entry, and it seems to take forever before you can start applying throttle on exit. Appropriately, it's the easiest turn to watch from the infield, and the crowd hollers as car after car finds its way into the dirt. One of the first is Anthony Magagnoli, who parks the powerful E30 3 Series we highlighted yesterday backwards in spectacular fashion between two tire barriers.
