they're the same design, one just has it centered on the wheel while the other takes up the entire face of the wheel. can't go wrong with either. style 5's have higher resale value, if that makes a difference to you.

Correction!...If they are refinished...Style 5's...Im trying to get mine refinished soon

unless you paint those style 5s, they will look ugly. If you dont plan on painting rims, get style 42s man FOR SUREEEE it gives your car that sporty edge. WITHOUT hesitation go for 42s .hope its not too late!

5's are dated, but 5's are better.

I have style 5's on my car, but yes, they are a ridiculous pain to clean... I kinda like the 42's.... I'd say go with the 42's... or get the 42's and we can trade

    I prefer the style 5.
If the pics are the cars you are looking at and they are not modded, pick the 530 then see if they will swap wheels.

I like both equally. I think the best aspect about the 5's is the deep dish. I don't think the 42's are set in as much.

What is the weight of each wheel?

I like both in addition to the Style 32s, Style 19s, Style 66, and Style 37s. I wish I had a set of each to swap around really. They all look good on these cars.

For anyone who can't keep all this straight: http://crass.on.ru/bmw/wheels/. I know I can't.

I like both styles. But 5's are very hard to keep clean.

If you have OEM brake pads, yes. Low-dust pads are less of an issue. Cleaning them is a b!tch.

Just be like me, own a set of style 42s and style 5s and switch them up to your heart's content.

does anyone have pictures of refinished custom 42s? I do think it is the dish that makes the Style 5's, but I never used to be a Style 5 guy until i saw some of the great refinish projects bimmerforums members undertook. seems like there is an opportunity to do something unique with the 42s. especially if you did custom barrels.

Wait, are we talking about with centercaps? Because style 42 > ... > style 5 with caps.

i have a set of 42s that will be finished at the wheel shop on wednesday. anthracite centers, polished lip. as soon as i get some tires on them, they'll be mounted on my E30, and i'll share some pics.

my E39 has 18" style 5s... it came with the 42s, and i just felt they were a little too sporty looking for my daily driver, while the 5s are more of that signature classic BMW/BBS look i really dig.
