Intake Boot ..... do a search on it..... theres an elbow that comes off the throttle body with another smaller elbow attached to it. Pop your hood and feel the back side of the smaller elbow and you'll feel tears in it. Replace it for 25 bucks after shipping and no more whistle.

happened to me. check the intake bellows at the throttle body. the rubber "ribs" will have slits/ tears at the bend letting the air in and making a whistling noise. gl

EDIT: ARISTEROS BEAT ME TO THE ANSWER BY A MINUTE...LOL

    ooooo pick, pick me

Look for a large hot thing that looks like two snails mating. It will have tube out both ends and be hot as hell. that is your turbo and they all whistle!!!

There are TWO rubber hoses there. Confirm which one you need! If it's the right one you can do intake muffler delete "for free" if you are so inclined.

Well technically some E39s in europe got a turbo...

Its a vacuum leak though. Its some hose or somewhere in the intake tract.

How'd you make out, did you check the boot? Is your whistling noise solved?

I checked today and it sounds like a leaf is in there too. I hear the noise in the vacuum but I don't see a hole. I will have to open to do further investigation I had my sister pump the throttle and I clearly hear it but couldn't feel a hole

I thought you were a mechanic for the Evolve Volvos? You should know this.

Yes. You're pulling in un-metered air, which means the DME can only re-actively respond [based on O2 sensor feedback] to the lean conditions created.

My intake boot was badly torn but I couldn't feel a hole either. My car still whistles, though, so I'm replacing the CCV next.

never once said im a mechanic buddy get a life and get off my case. and if your working for a dealership ur considered a technician not a mechanic. im a 19 year old college student who works for "Smythe Volvo" as a driver on my breaks when I go home I do not work on cars but I do get some experience from getting to watch/talk with the technicians. a simple answer to my simple question would of been sufficient. i also stated that every once in a while we get an "evolve" to come into the shop.. wow ur ridiculous
