Once again, Impressive!!
Can you expand upon how you got the electronics to play nicely? I read that you have the BMW ECU piggy backed to the LT1 Computer.
Did you have to do any programming trickery or did you simply just trick the computer into thinking that the motor in the car is the original BMW motor with double (Chevy and BMW) sensors?
Hey, thanks for the comments.
There will be plenty of videos coming up shortly, I have a few track days booked with the car towards the end of next month. I'm away for work for the next 3 weeks but I will post up some more pictures and videos when I get back.
The car is driving and working just as it should, it is certainly a little tail happy but that's part of the fun! The X3 diff and 330 drive train only lasted 5 minutes with the torque this thing has and I had to upgrade everything to M3 spec or above to cope.
Its running around 370hp with just under 380 ft/lbs of torque which is what I was aiming for. In the summer I'm looking at getting a lloyd elliot LE2 package which should see it run around 420hp.
As far as the electronics go it wasn't that hard I used a combination of both the piggyback set up and programed modules. It would have been a lot simpler with the LS1 due to it also using CAN systems. This would work quite easily with some programmed modules to interface between the two systems. Unfortunately I had to first convert a lot of the analogue lt1 signals in to the signals that the BMW ecu was looking for, before altering the frequency etc... to get the right dial indication.
I'm looking forward to seeing a few more e46 engine conversions with either ls1 or lt1 and seeing what they have done differently. There is a fair amount of people that do a lot of talking and not much building!
Cheers Dan

It's unfortunate this thread died out.
I, too, am curious about 'how easy' it was to get the BMW electronics and cluster working properly as I'm getting ready to do an LS1/t56 swap
There are many other swaps out there since this one that that have done similar integration. If I'm not mistaken this swap used the OEM temp sensor running through the DME with an After market tach. Then later switched that for an analog to can module to use the factory tach, temp and MIL and skip the BMW DME. I could be wrong. There have been a lot of these E46 engine swaps since this one and I could be confused.
You might look at what the guys doing 2Jz swaps are doing. It'd be a similar setup.
Is there anybody still in here I'm trying to get with the guy that did the my swap I need details on some stuff the engine is built by myself but I don't know what mounts to use to get it in the car please someone help lol
