    HELP! Problem with heater/ac blowing

    Hi everyone,
Hopefully someone can help! It's coming time that I will need my window defrosted, and my heater isn't working properly.
What its doing: It doesn't matter whether it's on "auto", full speed, low speed, high temp or low temp...the blower only turns on when it wants to. Totally random. It does seem to blow the appropriate temp (cold and hot), but it only blows for a moment and then turns off again.

replace the final stage relay, soon it will start killing ur battery,by randomly staying on even with the car off.

Ditto...do a search or look in the FAQ/DIY threads at the top of the e39 home page. You can't miss this subject.

The search word would be FSU (final stage unit) or the incorrect name, FSR (final stage resistor). It gets called by both names...but the part is actually a FSU. This issue is SO common, you can google "BMW e39 FSU" and get thousands of hits...and I believe there are even videos up on YouTube...again, search using the phrase/words "BMW e39 FSU".

    Good luck.
