thanks.
but it seems in my bios, there is no way to rename the motherboard serial port comm number (only allow me to set enable/disable, the address and IRQ), so i try to change the address+IRQ to sth other than 03f8 and 4. (or should i actually just disable it?)
In XP device manager, it does allow me to set the comm num, yet it seems there is no way to set the address to 03f8 (no such configuration for me to choose and not allow me to input manually becoz a nearby address 03f6 is occupied)
it would be great if you have some screenshots (as i am not even sure if i am choosing the correct item in device manager...)

I picked up a kit a couple months ago from rv8flyboy. He was very helpful in getting me all setup and made sure his interface is what I needed for my E36. His instructions are very well laid out and easy to understand. I can now troubleshoot issues easier when they happen. It works great for me. As long as you have a computer with a real comport, this cable is a no brainer to add to the toolbox.
rv8flyboy, thank you for the explanation.
So, how can I buy your schematic, wiring diagram and your programmed chip , or a complete kit - if u have ......
I am from Romania
Well, easiest is via PayPal, rv8flyboy at gmail dot com
35 for a circuit board and programmed chip
70 for a complete, and I mean complete, set of parts. both options come with the latest assembly manuals.
the parts kit has the SMD chips already soldered in place for you. If you blow a part, just shoot me an email and we work something out. I just fixed somebody's interface after it did not work, for broken part replacement cost and shipping. Granted this was a USA delivery, but, the option is there for you.
or for 110 you get a assembled and tested unit, all prices have the shipping included (10 dollars). shipping to Romania is no problem.
@ Betaruce
shoot me an email, i will respond with screen shots, or, if u are not in a hurry, I can upload, but that would be probably by next week as I have little computer time and I have to fire up another laptop to get the screen shots.
hey rv8flyboy
thanks for your reply
i still could not make the address to 03F8 (for the reason stated in my post above)
but then i use the patch Jarda provided to make INPA/Ediabas point to the address of my serial card, then the thing works
Are these cables still available for purchase?
(9/94, GF61, JPN: M60B40, ZF 5HP30, 3.15:1)

Just an update...
This ADS interface works great on a E31 ( 850iA 1990 ) and now i am able to read all the data from my car by using DIS ( easyDIS )
Cheers.
PM Sent.
Using one of Gert's cables successfully on both my E36 and E46. Very satisfied.
I have a 95 540 6 speed drivetrain shoehorned into an e34 touring (1994) and I need to see live data to troubleshoot an issue.
Gert was awesome, he answered questions quickly and inspires confidence in his product. The cable got here nearly overnight, and i'm in Canada (the sled dogs must have been going full speed)
The best part is that my setup worked first try (not counting a user error where I had forgot to disable VM run in the DIS config tool)
Using a toshiba Satellite pro 6100 (native serial) w/ fresh xp install.
So, for future reference this cable will allow DIS v44 to talk to a 95/94 e34 touring with an m60 v8.
I can see live data and read/erase codes. Also able to talk to the SRS system to reset my fault light for that too!
It also works great on a 99 US spec M3. Was able to talk to the ABS system to find a fault.
Both cases I was doing this via ADS

Hi guys, just to add another vote for Gerts cable (and assistance !!).
I have a '92 UK spec E34 520i, I bought a used IBM T23, installed all software using randomy instructions, tried using an old Carsoft cable without success. Splashed out on Gert's cable, he kindly supplied his copies of INPA/EDIABAS used on his son's E34, after many transatlantic PD e-mails, Gert was able to point me in the right direction.
I now have INPA/DIS talking to my E34, very happy.
Proper after sales service !!, thanks Gert.
I am ordering a Gert cable (sent you an email) for use between a '98 540i (E39) and a Dell D630 with a real COM1 port. Do you think the serial on the D630 will have a good baud rate or should I look into a PCMCIA adapter?
I have used 3 different DELL's, I currently own 2, a C640 and D830. All 3 won't reliably connect to the EGS in my 750 1990 E32. But if I use the Quatech SSP-100 I have no problems with either of the laptops. It seems communication is happier with the PCMCIA card.
It has something to do with the oddball baud rate employed by the EGS module. I also have to swap out the ADS32.dll file to a special one that can handle this baud rate.
lastly, there are a slew of DELL laptops that do not process the RING signal (DB9 - pin 9). There is yet another ADS32.dll file floating around that ignores the RING pin and shows battery always connected.
Folks have reported problems installing the Quatech PCMCIA card as comm 1. I have successfully installed this PCMCIA card on the above mentioned DELL's as well as on IBM T60 and T61 laptops.
now I am dreaming about trying it on a X60 or X61 with touch screen... anybody wants to donate one for the cause??
lol Gert. Im building one of those IBM X60/61s this week. Going to see if the VMs will play nice with the XP tablet version.

Got my Gerts cable today. Can someone point me to a thread that outlines setting up EasyDIS to communicate through this ADS setup?
I already installed GT1 on a virtual machine thanks to the Randomy guide. Now I just need to configure it to talk through the cable.
What I've done:
1] Installed fresh Windows XP/32 on a Dell D630
2] Installed INPA/Ediabas 6.4.3
3] Changed Ediabas.ini (c:EDIABAS/bin/Ediabas.ini) to have INTERFACE = ADS
4] Ran ADS setup (c:EDIABAS/hardware/ads/ads32/adssetup)
5] Installed EasyDIS as per Randomy Guide
6] Bought Gerts ADS Cable
7] Started EDIABAS by launching INPA
8] Started IFH-Service (c:EDIABAS/bin/IFHServ32)
9] Set COM1 to 0x3F8 and IRQ4 in bios
10] Set latency of COM1 to 1 in Device Manager to make it play nice
11] Booted VM of GT1 and went into ADMINISTRATION
12] Went into "Calibrating Touch Shield"
13] Got lost in here... what to set???

Hi Guys,
I hope someone can help me, I am really struggling with which pcmcia card to buy, my computer support the v2 of 54 mm which is slightly differnt to v1 54 mm or it also supports 34mm.
I am based in the UK, does any one know what chipset it has to be so it supports irq and memory address?
thanks
Received my cable yesterday. Loaded up v.6.4.3 INPA/EDIABAS/NCS Expert on an old Dell laptop that has a true serial port. Ran the ADSsetup, loaded the E36 daten files, and connected it to my pop's 2001 Z3.
Enabled the alarm on his Z3 with NCS Expert, and now his blinkers flash when he locks/unlocks the car. The alarm LED inside the cabin now blinks too.
He's very happy! Thanks for the cable.
Reporting success here with the Gerts ADS Interface! Why did I waste so much time fussing with USB solutions?
@Linux44
ah, Linux, a man of my own heart....
assuming you are running windows... there is a link in this post a page or so back: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...4&postcount=51
it links to a utility that allows you to patch the ADS32.dll file and is pretty nifty, several folks reported success with it. Give it a whirl
I myself am running a Quatech ssp-100 pcmcia card with great success on a IBM T61, Dell C640 and D830
