I recently purchased a 328i and a second key fob. I've done numerous searches on this forum and found the intructions to be found here @ http://www.mz3.net/articles/259.html
Unfortunaetly following the instructions step by step do not get me into programming mode.
For Example: I follow till step 6 and get no chirp or notification. Has anyone else used this proceedure with success on a 96+ E36? Any tips or suggestions?
Preparation
1. Close all doors, trunk, and hood.
2. The security system must be in "disarm" mode. The key must be removed from the ignition key slot.
Enter Code-Learning Mode
3. Open the trunk and leave it open.
4. Open the driver's door and sit in the driver's seat.
5. Close the driver's door.
6. Cycle the ignition switch five times between the "off" position and position 2 (ignition "ON", all dash warning lamps will illuminate). The red status LED will illuminate continuously, and the siren will "chirp" once, to indicate that the code-learning mode has been initiated.
DO NOT START THE ENGINE
The ignition switch cycling in step #6 must be performed within ten seconds.
The sequence in steps #1-6 must be performed within 45 seconds.
Registering/Delete ID Code(s)
7. Open driver's door, (remain seated in driver's seat)
8. Close driver's door.
9. Press and release any button on the remote you wish to register into the system. The status LED will shut off momentarily to indicate that one ID code has been registered.
10. Repeat steps 7 through 9 to register the remaining three ID codes.
Exiting Code-Learning Mode
11. Open driver's door, and exit from vehicle, leaving the door opened.
12. Close trunk.
13. Close driver's door. The LED will turn off and the siren will "chirp" twice.
14. The initialization procedure is now completed, test all remotes to confirm operation.
I have the same problem. Have you received any help?
I am not sure if this will help or not. I just installed a factory keyless/alarm in my 97 328iC. I just got the car and it didn't come with the alarm, when I tried programming my remotes, nothing. I couldn't get the LED to light up or siren to make any noise. Just as a fluke, I tried looking at my trunk sensor. I took it out, and reconnected it, and all of a sudden my interior trunk lights came on and then programming worked flawlessly. Make sure your trunk lights come on when the trunk is opened...if not, that is likely your problem. If they do, good luck finding what is wrong.
Hope that helps.
Those directions sound a little off to me, but it's been a while.
You might call your local dealership,
If you have a good relationship with the parts or maintainence people, they can walk you through it and help you find out what's wrong.
<tt><tt>hey I was wondering if you could tell me about step 9
9. Press and release any button on the remote you wish to register into
the system. The status LED will shut off momentarily to indicate that
one ID code has been registered.
there are only 2 buttons on the remote, so do i basically just press
each one once and release it? or is there some weird combination thing i
have to do?
i really appreciate this.
thanks</tt></tt></pre>
