HEADLAMP MALFUNCTION?!?! help please. 2003 745Li

When my headloghts come on, they will work for a little while and then i get the 'low-beam headlight malfunction' light. If i turn them off and back on or flash the high beams, sometimes they will stay on til i can get where i am going. My question is... Why is this coming on? Is it a wiring issue, or does it just mean the bulb is going out? If thats the case, where would I find a bulb and how would I change it? Please help... it is much appreciated. It is a 2003 745Li.

A little more information is needed.

Are both headlights going out?
Do they flicker?
When they are on, does one or both produce an un-normal color light?
