    Interior light upgrade

I saw a post a while back but can't seem to find it where someone had found an LED direct replacement bulb for the map light in the Z3. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Anything and everything you could possibly dream up...

For some interesting reading, you might look up dwm's posts on underhood lighting and interior lighting. He did a great mod that used orange led's that matched the instrument panel backlighting for getting interior light without blowing your night vision.

The pics are great--I'm sold, but my car's in storage for another couple of weeks. Which length bulb, 37 or 42mm? The 3710s in your photo look shorter than the stock bulb. Was there any problem in getting them to fit or stay?

I got a set at RS Strauss. They are different from the ones above. Its a bulb with a mini plug in it and the row of LED's plug into it. Its super bright. Its a row of 6 LED's. Its called LUXER 1.

What is strange to me is when I do a look up on their website for a 2000 BMW Z3 Roadster, the bulb they list for the dome light cross references on their chart to a #4410. This is offered in a 4410 x9 which has 9 LED bulbs in it. I'm going to call to see if this will work.

Apparently the Sylvania's cross reference chart that they use is not right so I ended up ordering the 3710 HP6 that KniceZ ordered but I got the cool white instead of the warm white because is had a higher lumen rating. I'll post feedback after I install it. Thanks to everyone for their input.

Sorry must of grabbed the wrong stock bulb for the pic. I actually bought bulbs for the trunk (4210) as well - the interior is 3710 - 37 mm length by 10mm diameter.

BTW - I choose Warm vs Cool because I thought the warm was closer to normal bulb color just brighter.

The names Warm White and Cool White are a bit messed up if you ask me. If you are looking for a light that is closer to what actual daylight looks like you should go with the one that has the highest Kelvin rating. In this case the Cool White has a higher Kelvin rating. I'm anxious to see how it looks.

Does your lamp fade out after you turn the car off like the original bulb does?

I agree with you on the names - but at least they give enough info to get which ever best suits your tastes.

Yes the lights dim just like a regular filament bulb.

I agree, they tell you everything you need to know. They even give a complete dimensioned drawing so you can know for sure if it will fit or not.

That's awesome that the LED will dim. It just wouldn't be the same if it didn't.

When I get back home I'm going to look for some red or amber ones. I like the red ambient light in my VW.

I need to get a set of these, I hate my interior bulbs and I have to look up what size the coupe trunk lights are because they might be different than the roady.

I have the superbrightled.com two LED one in my Z3 (as I moved it from a different vehicle). Works great! Ooooo I want to order the 9-er!! I have ordered tons of bulbs from them over the past seven years.

I just placed my order for 3710 (3 and 6) for the interior and 4210 for the trunk.

    Come on spring.

That's not entirely true. They will dim to a point, but then just turn off. Incandescents will dim smoothly until the power is off entirely. It's not a big deal, but it is noticeable.

Got my bulb (3710 HP6 Cool White) in the mail yesterday. Waited until dark and tried it out. Wow, what a difference! Just don't stare directly at the light and you won't go blind. Haha

According to Sylvania's website all Z3's take the same bulb for the dome light. I don't see any reason it wouldn't work.
