Is it my radiator gone bad?

Sorry about posting here and in the mechanical forum. Just got through replacing the thermostat and water pump on my 94 325 (E36). The fan was making extra noises and the water pump pulley fell apart when I restarted the engine (worried that I may not have had any fluid on the pump side of the system/across thermostat and maybe the new water pump is toast) (I know I'm an idiot and will replace the water pump) What I'm wondering is if the original overheating problem was the radiator. Even now, the upper radiator hose is warm, but the lower hose is cold.

If your radiator has never been replaced, I guarantee you it won't be a bad idea to replace it now. Mine only lasted 68k miles! Pelican Parts has one of the best deals you'll find on one if you do decide to buy one.
