Yesterday afternoon, I was backing out of my driveway and my neighbor was being picked up by a guy driving an E46 M3. The M3 ended up following me out of the complex I live in and we ended up taking the same road. Eventually we came to a stop light with both of us lined up next to each other, first in line. The tempation to was too great for both of us to resist and we launched on the green.
From the start he gained a ¼ carlength on me. His 1-2 shift occurred just before mine, but I ended up bouncing off my rev limiter (dam!) and lost another ½ car length putting my front wheels at his rear section. Through 2nd and 3rd I stayed right with him with neither of us substantally gaining or losing ground. I shut it down after I shifted into 4th at around 100 mph with the next light approaching and conceded. As expected, it was a very close race! It would have been closer if I didn’t bounce off my rev limiter in 1st! Good driving on the part of the M3 driver.
