Isn't it a much harsher ride when lowering the 8? The stock suspension is already pretty stiff.

Not a joke at all, but IMO it's quite stiff already, stiff enough for me to crack a rim and blow out a tire on a typical pothole.

A pic of the 8 after work yesterday. The Eibach/Bilsteins dropped the front just a bit compared to the worn out EDCs.

Me on the old 23' Daycruiser jetboat.

    Who makes the Daycruiser?

I've got a 2004 23' Yamaha SX230 with twin MR-1 engines putting out 140hp each. The MR-1s are motorcycle race engines modified for marine use. Not sure if true with yours, but mine has a dry sump oil system so no worries of oil starvation in aggressive maneuvering. Plus no transmission with the jet boat, so you can go from full forward to full reverse...as long as you do not throw yourself and your passengers overboard.

Yamaha went from the 140hp engines to 160hp engines in the 2006 model and then in 2010 they added 1' to the length + some neat changes + twin 180hp engines = the SX240 with a ~$10K increase in the base price.

    My 850s

I got the Calypsorot '92 850 6spd in June '09 keeping it for ~2 years, but then got the Lagunengruen '92 ACS 850 automatic spring '11 due to major engine problems with the 6spd. Henry Lawrence with Power Plant Racing plans to breath new life into the 6spd as his own car after years of tuning engines for other 8s.

We could turn this into the SX230 forum, but everyone else would hate us.

I will just say I think the SX230 is very innovative just like the 8s, but not built in the limited numbers. An engineer friend of mine feels it is one of the best thought out boats he's ever seen. I like the way the SX240 has a step at the bow and they changed the step from the swim platform at the stern so it is not a seat cushion on a hinge rather just sculpted lower in the body there to step thru. The swim platform is great where I love being able to sit on the back while enjoying the water and with the additional radio remote built into the stern you never even have to get out of the water to change the station or CD track or volume.

I had an older 27' Sea Ray which was impractical for the lake where I keep my boat as it gets shallow (down to 3'-4' at the upper end), so when the Sea Ray sank (not my fault...catastrophic leak caused either by muskrats or deteriorated rubber seals) I bought the SX230 with its 18" draft plus it planes faster than any other boat I've ever owned. Just a very fun boat with ZERO mechanical issues to date.

An added bonus which I never thought about...no props to cut yourself on. A friend mentioned that to me while out my SX230 and I said no one ever cuts themselves on a prop; then ~2 weeks later a friend almost cut a toe off hitting their prop while swimming with the boat anchored/engines off and the outboard trimmed fully down in the water. 15 stitches, but they did not lose the toe.

It was a '78 Anthony. I built a mild (~340hp) 454, running straight thru-hulls. The previous owner hadn't winterized properly and the block was cracked. I sourced a 454 from a GMC 1-ton, as a bonus it had 4-bolt mains.

I loved 'hitting the brakes'!! If I had the place diverter down and threw it in reverse, I could throw a wicked rooster about 25' in the air, straight up and into the boat.
She'd throw a really nice rooster with the diverter up. I really, really miss the lack of maintenance! (and the rumble!!) 10min a couple times a year. Now with twin stern drives its a whole lot of time and $$$ to maintain them.

Nice...I do not trailer my boat much as my parents' live on a lake in the Uwharrie National Forest (55,000 acres) where Lake Tillery is ~12 miles long x ~ 2 miles wide at its widest, so not a huge lake...I love it thou because lots of undeveloped shoreline with trees, trees and more trees. There are some modest homes and then as always some multimillion dollar mansions, but not so much as some of the other area lakes as Tillery is off the beaten path.

My wife just asked me about trading in our 2002 Jeep GC Overland with a 5.7L HO V-8 & 4x4. She likes the new Jeep GC Overland Summit, but wants the 3.6L V-6 & 4x2. With the 5.7L V-8 you can sometimes forget you are towing a boat with ~3,000lbs dry weight. so even not trailering the SX230 much I plan to stick with the V-8 & 4x4. Actually I do not think the trade-in is going to happen at all as the Jeep only has ~110K miles on it, so just breaking it in. The wife got excited when I mentioned a ~$1,500 repair (she'd freak if she knew what I've spent on the 850), but $1,500 is only 2-3 months of the payments you'll pay for years getting a new vehicle.

I towed the Anthony for several years 85mi each way to the lake and back with my '94 GC Limited, 5.2, AWD. The Anthony was just over 4300lbs with trailer. The Jeep had 192K miles when I sold it, and she ran strong, no smoke or leaks. Great vehicles.
