Luckily we haven't had much rain this year, so my car is usually clean except when I don't keep it covered (which I didn't this Sun, so I just washed it and will put the cover back on). But I do have to say, that's a real cool pic.

Finally got a hold of one after years of longing. 95 840, paint needs some love but for the price Im not complaining especially since it made the 600 mile trip home without a hitch. First order of business is the general module repair, it was a little sketchy being trapped inside the car for about 20 mins till it warmed up haha.

f13platform & jeffbebe What suspension are you guys running/using for your e31?

    - - - Updated - - -

Hi guys, I am new to the e31 section but, been a forum member for a long time now with different projects.

Been wanting to share with you guys this for a long time, but just haven't found time to make it here

I have had this 1995 e31 840ci for about a year now. I picked it up last Jan 4, 2016. So far, I sat most of the time in my garage and didn't get to give it some love since, I recently had my second child last year as well.
Things don't as of now, full service... Bilstein sport shocks, Eibach springs, redone headliner in black suede, and add genuine CSI front bumper and rear valance.

Ooops! You are quite right. I meant to post this in the "Show your ride pic" thread. The cars are much more photogenic than I am.

I really would have liked to have been at the Wrenchfest, but events and AmericanAirlines both conspired against me. First, I had a family get-together that day, to include some cousins from Canada that I only get to see once a decade or so. Even then, my plan was to leave early from that event and fly to CA that evening, and get the car from Alec first thing Sunday morning -- possibly going to Supercar Sunday. However, AmericanAirlines cancelled my flight, and the best they could do was to downgrade my ticket from first class to economy, leaving the next day, from a different city. Their customer service rep was absolutely no help. When I asked about the possibility of getting a hotel voucher (since I was going to have to stay overnight to catch a very early flight the next morning), he told me I'd have to go to the airport -- I wasn't at the airport yet, when they cancelled the flight -- and then there was only a possibility that the ticket agent would give me voucher. And then I'd have to go to a different airport to actually catch my flight. When I asked if he could contact the ticket agent for me, he flat out told me 'no.' Then he had the gall to ask me if there was anything else he could do for me, and thanked me for flying AmericanAirlines. Ha!

After a $75 Uber ride from Baltimore to Washington DC, and brief stay in a Holiday Inn (that was very nice, possibly the nicest Holiday Inn I've ever stayed in), I caught a 6:10 am flight to LA (stopping in Atlanta). Oh, did I mention, that I also had to forfeit my room I had reserved in LA for that night? At least that was booked using reward points rather than cash.

So I finally arrived in LA after travelling for about 12 hours. Alec had arranged to film me picking up the car. I'm not the most photogenic guy to begin with, and I probably looked a little like a drowned rat after traveling for 12 hours, but it was a bright sunny day in LA, and the car looked great. After formalizing and memorializing the transfer, my brother (who accompanied me) and I grabbed a quick dinner and headed off to Flagstaff for the night. By the time we stopped, we'd been travelling for about 23 hours. The trip through the Mojave desert was HOT. It was showing 105 degrees at 8:00pm, and when you touched the window glass, the glass was hot. However, the car ran fine, and the A/C kept the inside nice and cold. My brother, who'd never been in the southwest before, took tons of photos while we were driving. Since I did all the driving, I took none.

The next morning I got up early and swapped the radio for one I'd brought with me. I took the CD43 out of the green 850, since it also has a Bluetooth module attached that lets me play music from my iPhone, as well as talk hands free on the phone. After blasting my brother out of bed (he's not an early riser), we headed off for Oklahoma City. Along the way, we stopped in Winslow AZ and stood on the corner. What a hoot! The city council or whoever purchased a flatbed Ford that they park at the corner, and the stores play Eagles music non-stop. We stopped for dinner in Amarillo TX at a tourist trap called The Big Texan. They advertise a free 72 oz steak, provided you eat it (and all the fixings) in 60 minutes or less. We didn't try, but the normal sized steaks were good, and the place was almost beyond description -- deer, antelope and bear heads covered the walls, the waitstaff all dressed like cowgirls, and there was a shooting gallery inside next to the gift shop. We closed the place down, and arrived in OKC about three in the morning.

The next day's drive was only exciting for the fact that the windshield wipers died, and it rained. Not for long, but it was a torrential downpour (the problem ultimately turned out to be a blown fuse, although I didn't work that out until I got home). Otherwise, it was just a long drive to Indianapolis for the night. The next day, still concerned about the wipers and the weather, we got some Rain-X for the windshield, which helped with the rain that we ran into through much of Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Around 2800 miles later we were home. I never really pushed it much past 80 mph (okay, maybe 100 once or twice) out of concern for something going wrong far from home, but the car purred along like a kitten and the Escort radar detector kept me out of trouble. Except I'm concerned I may have tripped the photo radar as I came into Oklahoma at 1:00 in the morning -- Alec, if a ticket should show up (since the car still had the California plates on it at that point), just forward it to me.

Anyway, I'm home, the car's home, it's registered and titled in PA and passed state inspection this morning. My favorite BMW mechanic, to whom I've been trusting all my cars for several years, says he really likes it, so I take that as a stamp of approval -- not that I need any validation, beyond the ear to ear grin I can't seem to get off my face.

    What a great story.
Regarding the BT module, which one is it and can it be attached to the Becker indianapolis?

Thanks. Here is a link to the one I just bought (I got a second one so that I have one in both cars), but I don't think it will work with the Becker. At the very least, you'd have to do some custom wiring, since I don't see one with the right connector.

    Yes, really great story!

mbarrett635, glad you chose to drive instead of ship....that's exactly what it was designed for. Coincidentally, in a year or so I'll be moving back to Indy and need to decide on drive or ship my 165k mile 8er. I'd like to drive....wife thinks otherwise. The drive out to CA she enjoyed but that was 15yrs ago. Maybe I'll do like you and draft my brother for the return trip!
