For the most part yes. Stock gauges work great. The motor sits in the same location as the bimmer stock motor and the weight is about the same if not lighter. A/c is a no but it can be kept, there is the room for it to stay but you would have to go somewhere and have custom ac lines ran. Power steering works normal, shifter is centered. I think the only guage that doesn't work right is the mpg guage
sweet man. thats what i was looking for.
i've always loved the power of the jz but i didn't wanna sacrifice the bmw feel in the car for the motor.
but yea, i'll be more than likely contacting you when i get started :P
you'd probably make alot if you did.
I could do that... But once it gets that serious it becomes a job and not a Hobbie. We have actually been really consistsnt with these swaps. Once we finish the 1jz 240 That we are building right now, that will be the 4th car we have built in under a year. That's more than a lot of shops do! Plus there is another guy with a e36 who is interested in having us do his swap. If you or anyone you know is interested in having any swap done just pm me and we can talk.

I am curious to see some numbers as I am almost at the point of choosing my next power adder. I was planning on boosting my current m52 motor but if the 2jz parts could be shipped would definitely change my mind.
2jz/1jz swap has been done in thailand into e36's since the beginning of the e36.
you can get mounting parts on ebay from a shop in thailand that sells them
transmission you will need a SC300 JZZ30 long tail R154 or sc300 MK4 supra W58 or MK4 supra 160/161 getrag
radiator you are probably best adapting lines with hard piping between silicone hoses from e36 radiator to 2jz pipe in/out
if you want to know the inner workings of the wiring of the 2jz-gte brain, heres my write up on it.

I LOVE 2jz. 1jz is too much trouble imo. Either way, its the best turbo option period. 1jzgte DNa > any bmw slant 6 turbo setup (aftermarket or stock)
2jz-ge + a single turbo > 1jz anyday imo. its stronger, bigger, better, cheaper.
as far as power numbers, its as simple as how much money you have to play with. turbo kit potential + boost up + tuning
you'll find that tuning a 2jz-gte is as simple as STOCK JDM aristo map only ecu ($150 on ebay) + greddy emanage ultimate. Piggyback setups with a single turbo are good for ~500 rwhp easy, we did 172mph at TX mile on a stock everything else single turbo MK4 6mt supra - 93 octane pump, 275mm street tires, 1.3 bar of boost, gt40 size turbo - im guessing about ~520 rwhp, spun through 3rd gear.
the BMW power plants may have slight displacement advantage (s52) and ease of already being in the car, but the turbo placement, header setup are all irritating due to the slanted configuration (which favours ITB's and giant NA plenums).
the valvetrain advantages of the 2jzgte are also good compared to the bmw powerplants, as well as oiling and RPM capacity. Stock 2jzgte oil pump can go 8500 rpm, the valvetrain is solid lifter cam on bucket, underbucket shim conversion is common with upgraded valvetrains, built motors can shoot for 9,000 rpm+ - something even my S54 cannot dream of.
basically- the 2jz is better than anything anyone else in germany has to offer- for boosting, it was sent by toyota to be refined in germany...yamaha designed the 1jz core DNA - that evolved from the 3s-gte, (302E race engine). 3s-gte evolved from the infamous 4a-ge 1600cc yamaha engine; Formula atlantic versions do 280hp+ out of 1600cc Naturally aspirated- 13,000 4 banger rpm anyone?

so basically this swap is just, wiring, plumbing to radiator, + change motormounts?
sounds to good to be true..
^ don't forget the driveshaft
who can provide a driveshaft?
its gonna have to be made by a driveshaft shop...
This swap is easy as pie. Just about anyone can do it... It's practically a straight bolt in and plug and play right?
Wanagan style you have just sole me on the 2j swap.
I agree with te 2j all the way... But most people want us to do the 1j because they are cheaper. They are around 1700-1900 with a r154 depending on when you buy them. 2j are around 2600 with a w58 or you can buy just the motor for around 2 and spend another 6-800 for a 2j r154. I'm sure someone will dispute the prices I put up and I'm sure there are cheaper ones out there. I'm just posting this so you can get a general idea on prices.
can someone tell me how "plug and play" this swap is?
You can get pre made mounts for tranny and engine... great!
Wiring splicing... Can you get the tacho to work?
plumbing for radiator...
Custom prop shaft..
Exhaust..
Throttle cable..
What else?
Is it possible to fit a single turbo, without making your own manifold?

i love this swap and really wanna do it, but no one seems to have a clear answer about the wiring portion of the swap.
so far the information that i have gathered is that the ecu needs to be wired with the "12v lead".
as for the speedo, thats in the speed sensors i assume?
the tach could be writed in from the ignitor i also imagined.
my questions just arise as to where you tap the wiring for the ecu and do you maintain both of them running all at once?
as far as the wiring goes, i think everything else is pretty simple and consist of getting parts manufactured, i.e. hoses, exhaust, driveshafts, etc.
you have a good point.
but i've dealt with the 1jz before in a supra,
but doing it in the e36 is going to be on a different level for me.
i don't have an issue with the actually installation of the motor, but more so with the wiring and getting it to run properly.
all i'm after is just to get a stock 1jz running with no issues.

Sho, you guys are sure in for a surprise...
If you staying stock M3/328 gearbox, then you wont have any driveline issues or engineering work
it is not as easy as it looks. my swap took some time, but it's for a big single, also everything was accounted for regarding the big power setup.

These were done about 2 months ago, lots has changedd since then, will upload never vids/pics.
how did you manage mating the jz engine with the tranny?
custom bellhousing?
i'm still curious about the ecu! lol
how is everyone running it? seems different from every setup.
heres my 2jz swap build into a sc300-

tach issues are handled with dakota digital box convertor
wiring for 2jz-gte ecu is discussed in detail here:
http://www.clublexus.com/forums/perf...gured-out.html
If you run a e-manage ultimate + jdm stock TT ecu you will be good untill ~ 600 hp range. We did a 172mph pass at the tx mile with a stock engine, stock manifold, stock street tires, pump gas single turbo car. low 500 rwhp, no sweat- on an $100 ecu and $400 piggyback anyone can get.
driveshaft can be done by any domestic shop that makes driveshafts- ~$450 or so.
ECU is your choice- i like stock ecu; map jdm version-
custom bellhousing is the easiest- chop off the 2jz auto bell end and have it welded to the BMW ZF trans. Pick a clutch setup that works with the engine's flywheel and the trans imput splines- not that difficult for an aftermarket clutch maker to give you parts for
people do this in sweden to fit Volvo turbo 5 cylinder to E36/E34
ECU is tuners choice- His setup is big power drag racing, so consult who is tuning to pick ECU
