I pulled the headliner down and the drain is just fine...If the S-shaped channel isn't clogged, what could it possibly be?
If you look at your windshield...look to see if it is a replacement (you can tell by looking at the stamp on your other windows that you know are original). You can see the original BMW Roundel (and part nbr written in black) on the window in the image below...it is to the left of the ANTI-THEFT sticker:
If it has been replaced...and your sunroof's "S" drains are not blocked but yet the sunroof backs up with water...then there is probably excessive windshield adhesive blocking the flow of water down the A-piller.

Im not sure if the windshield has been replaced or not but I have had the car 2 years and it just started leaking a month ago.
look for the original BMW Roundel & SEKURIT stamp on the windshield (as seen in the pic above with the quarter in it)

I took the car back to the place that replaced the windshield and they showed me that the drainage channel wasn't blocked. Perhaps the channel going from the windshield to the S-shaped tube? I'll feed a nylon wire up the channel and see if this clears things up...
EDIT: Nevermind, I just checked and there's too much adhesive, it's blocking half of the opening of the channel. I'll be taking it back tomorrow.

Sounds like they're clogged, which can happen over time.
on the rear drains--where is the exit for the tube? I get water on the pass rear floor. The tube is connected to the drain box, but I think it may be clogged
This got me to thinking, (dangerous), and I looked in my sunroof and could not find any holes, drains, or anything that resembles those pics. In the front of the sunroof opening there is a spring loaded device that pops up and deflects the wind. Nothing in the corners. Weird.
I guess I can put my floaters back in now...
I Fixed it. It was the seal on the body that goes around the sunroof. It was letting too much water in and over loading the drains.
Good job Nick.

Sorry to revive an old thread but can the floaters be removed?

Or will this cause an issue? I feel like if they're removed, the water will drain properly
Yes they can, but they are rarely the total cause. If you search through here you'll find that in a lot of situations the drains at the top of the windshield are clogged either completely or mostly and that causes the water to pool and flood the sunroof tray to the point it spills over into the headliner and down the A, B, or C pillar.
I checked my water leak and it's overflowing and coming through the two metal lines that move the sunroof, not sure how to fix it. The sunroof is letting any water that is on it through the gasket. Obviously it needs to be replaced.
You can manually manipulate the floats to see if the water starts going down. If it doesn't at all, your drain's are clogged.
The water is going down, it's still flooding though... It's concerning because it's the opening on the track itself letting water in
I'd still say you have a clog in the drain lines as it should allow a pretty decent flow. The tracks/upper tray can get water into them but they usually drain from one of the four corners. I'd go ahead, remove the floats and test again. If it still doesn't drain well, I'd really look at the front drains (more so than the rear) being blocked at least partially.
What's the best course of action to clean the channel?

I don't understand the point of the float
I don't have a pressure hose to go into that small hole, should I put draino through it? (I'm kidding of course) It's just so difficult to drain the sunroof drains when they enter into the windshield and I can't access it. Any help would be appreciated
Undo a wire coat hanger and straighten it out as much as possible? . Or if you have some thin steel gardening rods you use to help stake vines etc?

Heavy (.080 or so) weed-whacker line is a better choice. The problem with stiff wire is that you can push the rubber hose right off the nipple on the sunroof... same with overly generous applications of compressed air. Proceed gently...

I would like to replace my sunroof drain tubes as they are torn (don't ask me how). Can I just pull them out from under the car or are they attached to something between the c pillar and exit?
I've ready removed the headliner and stuff so I know the connector just be removed from the sunroof
