Think I need a new alternator - question

I think my alternator is going, so I'm gonna buy a new one. My question is, should I buy a larger alternator since I have a fairy high wattage system in my car now (1400 watts)? Also, what sizes are out there that would be best, along with ballpark pricing? Thanks for any info on this. I'm really just more interested in the difficulty of changing out the alternator and the pros/cons of upgrading.

I've heard it's easy to swap. Do a Search - I know there are some threads on here on higher output alternators.

there are 2 for 6cyl e36 I think, 80A and 140A.

I've swapped out my friend's 80A for a 140A and its a snap! The only thing is to make sure to get the mounting bolts since they differ from one year to another, although the mounting brakets on the cars are all the same...
