Taping the oil filter housing for three ports.

I just read a whole bunch of threads regarding this. The TRM dist block provide only one port. I need ports for oil supply, oil temp, oil pressure. So I think the best solution here is to tap the oil filter housing and make three ports and then run an inline filter for the turbo.

What do you guys think. Any specific location? Or should I just tap where it will look good?

Tap wherever. I have found no issues.

Would tapping just the oil filter cover work?

Perhaps but it'd look ugly. Its maybe 1-1.5hr to R&R the housing off and tap it..

Anyone else have experiance doing this. I know I have an option of going to oil presure sending switch behind the filter housing but I would rather do the oil filter housing as long as there is nothing wrong with that.

Is the oil filter housing always full of presurized oil when the car is on?

You are right about the junk in there, I was going to use a small inline filter right before the turbo. Also I didn't know that the housing is plastic. Isn't it aluminium?

Even with an inline filter, that oil is going cycle through all the crap in the old filter first and take some with it. I dont like the idea of having the filter that close in the oil circulation system to the turbo.

Edit: Sorry was picturing wrong engine configs, limited page info, responding from phone.

Dude wut? An OBD1 oil system has no plastic lids... and the housing is never plastic...

Damn my bad guys, the app I use on my phone for vBulletin doesn't show users vehicles. I'll have to keep that in mind. Your sure the housings weren't changed over to plastic too? I could swear BMW started implementing plastic housing into the OBD2s on the inline sixes at least. I've definetely squeazed a couple...they flexed.

    What app?

No plastic on any of the cars we turbocharge!

    Tapatalk doesn't show cars/locations/etc.

No, the OBD2 housings are aluminum too. They simply have a plastic cap/lid. Not even the current cars have plastic housings

OP, pull housing, tap, clean, install fittings w/ sealant, reinstall housing, install inline filter. 2hr later, done!

Tapatalk. It's awesome, waiting for some other forums to catch on to it. Only issues I have with it is that it I can't see join date, post count, location, etc. And it doesn't show which forum you are in once you select a thread out of it.

And I stand corrected sir, all of the housings so far from BMW have been metal. What a brain fart, shit. My bad sigma take it easy, I realize this after looking at double checking my e36, e46, and e90. I don't like posting misinformation. We are in this forum to learn, correct?

Yes I was just trying to help, sorry, I come off condescending often.

I wish BFC was just using the Mobile profile these days, I have Tapatalk but I don't like it near as much as the Mobile VB profile... Oh well.

It's cool man. The only reason I don't mind tapatalk is due to how condensed it is. Pages load fast, no banners, text boxes fit the screen so I dont have to scroll around, zoom-in/out and navigating (both of which piss me off when viewing any site I frequent), etc. But it clearly has a couple minor issues that need to be resolved.

But vBulletin does have a great mobile profile compared to most others.

Yeah, if you had used the vB Mobile theme, you'd like it better. Tapatalk on my iPhone 3G is slower than the Mobile theme was on my 2G. Go figure. I wish Kevlar would get on the ball and set up the Mobile theme again...
