I have a 96' 328 and i just replaced the thermostat under the certified pre-owned warranty. I have 63,000 miles and was wondering if i should change the water pump. I have heard that the stock one is crap with plastic and other stuff. Just wanted to know what u guys think i should do. Also is it covered under certified pre-owned warranty?? thanks for the help.....bob
I have read conflicting cutoff dates for the plastic impeller pump. For peace of mind I replaced both pumps and thermostats/seals on both of my M50s. I did the work myself so I don't know about the CPO warranty.

change it
better be safe then sorry.....its not that expensive either...
The cut off build date for M3s is around 10/96. I'm not sure if this also applies to standard E36s, but I'm willing to bet that you have plastic.

Yeah, that's a metal one. I still needed mine replaced at 65K, though.Originally posted by Willy
