Do you understand what the activated charcoal filters do for your cabin air?
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
Uh, no.
Yup, it just amazes me, what some would do just to save some money. Now, K&N filters? Even more expensive than the actual carbon charged filters, yet, if properly oiled, now you are bringing those minute oil charged particles into the cabin??? Dumbest thing next to trying to load an M62 into an E39's trunk for transport..... Seems to me, we be being trolled.

Ha. At first I thought "OH! K&N must have a sideline of cabin air filters now! That'd make lots of sense, they already are making all kinds of filters and are prob good at that stuff and have a good supply chain, probably easy to diversify into cabin-air technology filters and stick the brand on it..."
Then I googled the PN#, and... no. That's an oiled engine air filter.
If it's a troll its a good one, got me for 5 minutes for sure. But I don't think it is since he is asking in the other thread for a mod to update the sticky with his newfound part number.
Troll or not making it extra funny, this is actually in the 2009 thread...
BTW the orig thread also points out in very recent posts that a range of proper fit high quality carbon containing filters are available retail these days for really cheap so there's no reason not to get a proper fitting proper tech part from Mann or Bosch or Fram or anybody else.

Yeah, I remember that thread, best suggestion was yo mommas pantyhose filled with activated charcoal from the aquarium shop, layed over some cheeseball Fram filter..... Still shaking my head.BTW the orig thread also points out in very recent posts that a range of proper fit high quality carbon containing filters are available retail these days for really cheap so there's no reason not to get a proper fitting proper tech part from Mann or Bosch or Fram or anybody else.

I keep asking my self WHY WOULD SOMEONE DO THAT? I mean go thru all that trouble to "modify" a filter when it costs 1/2 the price of another one that works 100 time better. It really means having to change it much more often thus being more expensive in the long run. And to NOT use the carbon activated ones means horrid smells come in from outside.
And now a days WHY even pay for filters after the 1st set. I mean with FCP Euros Free Replacement Warranty it is a no brainer.

By them once and then just have them replaced under warranty each time you need them. All you pay is the shipping.
Or if you really have to have the OEM try Amazon - free shipping on these below PLUS a 2 year 24000 mail warranty. so just replace them every year.

I was thinking along the lines of "oil this thing with mint oil, clove oil, or one of those exotic fragrance oils. Clean air and you will never smell another stinky in your life (or anything else for that matter)".
well that didnt go as planned lmao but anyhoot i didnt do this this was just another option to the sticky, but fyi you can technically wash this out of the oil and it would end up being the same as the K&n cabin filters...

I guess if you lived out west in one of the dust bowl areas and were more concerned about dust and silicosis it might not be a bad idea. The concern would be what type of oil to use to get maximum efficiency without the petroleum smell.
Only the finest extra virgin olive oil. With a splash of balsamic vinegar and a pinch of salt and pepper naturally.

LOL, so you really don't use 80 grit.
Sure, when I was a young lad. Too much callous build up though. Was getting hard to sit down.
