    Smile e39 swap to 1jzgte or 2jzgte?

hello, I'm positive that I will be swapping the engine in my 530I to either a 1jz gte or a 2jz gte. I'm wondering what's the better option? this will be my DD. I'm wanting somewhere around 400HP. if anyone has any tips as too how I should go about this I'm all ears

you just want 400 rwhp? If so, I would advise you to look more into what is offered for your car.

For a daily driver always use K.I.S.S Keep It Simple Stupid. Non turbo is always more reliable than turbo

1 jz is plenty if you only looking for 400, unless you want 700 hp or more then will probably need 2j

Well most importantly you live in California. That means turbocharging you M52 (which would make the most sense for 400hp) might be difficult finding something that is CARB legal.
I would also think that the 1jz will be out, due to it being old, and not OBD2 compatible.
Even the 2jz is a few years older than your car,...I would check on CARB requirements first.

    are slow.
Why not just M52 with S52 crank, and then turbo?

More power potential, and will retain the BMW theme, as well as probably being cheaper....
