Marc, I did not see a response to your question so I wanted to see if you got an answer as my 02 745i is doing the same thing. I live in Colorado and don't drive the car in the snow or while it's snowing or if it looks like it's going to snow. After about 4 days the car will not start. I haven't had this issue before.

I wanted to know if you think the maintenance plan is worthwhile for an '07 750i with 35K mi. front brakes have been done and current maint plan expires 12/2010. plan costs $2500 and is good for addtl 2 yrs after 12/2010.

Also the records show the car had it's first oil change at 17K miles. Can I deduce from this that it was gently driven? or is that typical mileage for first oil change?
To help with your maintenance plan decision, take a look at your iDrive as it will tell you when your next services are due. You should beable to tell if you'll have any major service due in the next 2 years or so. Brake pads/rotors will cost ~800 maybe if you pay for it(don't quote me on that). So you figure if you need rear brakes, atleast 2 or 3 oil services, microfilters, and maybe a brake flush at your dealership prices, would that cost 2500 bucks? And is that just the maintenance plan, or the CPO?

17k miles oil change maybe on the higher end of the scale, and it may/may not reflect the drivers habits. For all you know the car could have been due at 12,000 miles and they drove over an additional 5,000 miles....

For Kyle or anyone from a newbie ....

I'm new to this forum but like this format. I get a lot of help with the corvette forum and I would like to pick your collective brains.

    In the past I've had a 735i, 740i, 740il and I just pulled the trigger on a 2007 750li still under warranty.

I have been wary of the 7 series since 2002.

I guess I'm just asking what do I have to look forward to as far as tech issues and or failures?

Are there chronic problems or any preventative procedures it would be helpful to know?

Thanks for any and all input. I appreciate any help.

    Joe

    E65 ride question

Kyle, I just for my 2007 750i 3 days ago. I bought a CPO from out of state and had it delivered without driving it. It has 35K miles.

When I apply brakes and bring the car to a stop normally it seems to act like a bowl of jelly in that it bounces back and forth for more than a brief moment. I also feel it doesn't soak up small bumps well. Running over a small road defect gives more noise and "feel" than what I'd expect from a car of this caliber.

I have an appt to drop it at my local dealer and wanted to see if you had any thoughts/experience on this? My 99 E320 did this once and it turned out the shocks went out prematurely. The car slightly hopped when travelling at freeway speeds. I guess this one does a bit too.

I don't think my car has EDC as it's not std on the E65. I looked under rear wheel well and I saw what looked like a shock with a spring around it. the front wheel well has a larger diameter spring with a rubber boot enclosed damper. It looks different than the rear.

I just wanted to ask one more time whether the e66 is pretty much the same in regards to all the problems e65 had?

bimmer8604, thanks for helping us out.

I bought my '02 e65 with abs light and park brake failure light on. Rotors were really worn so i figured this was the problem . I replaced all rotors/pads/pad sensors. fault lights are still there. they stay solid. when i open my door and sit before putting the key in i already get the park brake failure on the dash. i dont think its the abs module because i don't get the dsc error but then again im not a tech

I just bought a 2003 745i with about 48k miles on it. Spent about 4k fixing oil and trans leak, replaced front breaks, control arms and window regulator. It's been running very well for the past 2 weeks until this afternoon. I was listening to the radio when all of a sudden there was this high pitched sound. I was able to isolate it to the rear passenger side speaker. Need help on how to fix it myself.

    Tnx.

Hi Kyle - I'm hoping you're still out there! Thanking you for your answers thus far and into the future! I have a 2006 760LI, just came off the service warranty, car though is a CPO and only has 43k miles. Questions:
1- Just changed the microfilter -- how do I reset the warning?
2- The 6CD player indexes now, I dont think it did before, every time I start the car. Is the battery dying?
3- How often does one change the battery in the car, specifically obviously the 760. Does it die faster? Easy for a regular, not necessarily mechanically minded individual?

    Thanking you in advance!

1st answer micro filter reset push and hold the left button in the instrument cluster for about 10 sec. the service lights pops up when it does on the left display scroll down the the micro filter push and hold the left button again until it pops up on the side with the tachometer then scroll down to the the reset option push and hold until it states its been reset. after doing so scroll to the back option push and hold for about 4-5 seconds the display will then go back to normal.

second the cd changer is doing this due to power shut down commands it is a sign of low battery voltage. If you have the means of testing the battery I would do so. if not take it into the dealership and have them test the battery for you.

third how often are you driving your car? does it sit a lot? I would recomend you getting a trickle charger for the car battery tender is a good brand.

Thanks! Got the reset done alright - brainfart on my side. I drive daily so I guess the battery is fading. Thanks again!

Oil Change reset in 2006 750Li

Just wondering if there is a way to reset the light when the oil is changed without having to pay the dealer $90 to do it. They charge an outrageous amount. Is it done through the computer or can it be done through the dash board?

    thank you,

    Chris

    Problems

hi all! i recently bought a used 2005 745i and recently had a whole lot of problems! but the main one is when i gas lightly there would be a 1sec delay and than all of the sudden it jumps forward! any ideas? I took it to a shop and had the car flashed, trani fluid topped off, and software upgraded and the best solution they came up with is that my battery is low! which they said will cost about 450 to replace. i am not sure if a low battery has anything to do with my cd player not working and my parking sensor going out and coming back on sometimes... this all happened in a 3 month span after i bought the car...Thanks in advance!

Hello Kyle, I have a question, but since the last question posted 3-19 went unanswered I'm not sure you're still responding. Thanks for all the past help though.

here's a website to check your codes:
    http://www.my330i.com/odb2.php

And the red indicator means your car is due for inspection.

Hi Kyle, Thank you for all your replies they really show your dedication to this forum.

I have a couple of questions:
1- I am thinking of buying a 7 series and I can't seem to decide on an engine here we have the 730iL, 735iL, 740iL and 745iL the years I am thinking of is between 2006 and 2008, so what would be the best choice to avoid high maintenance.

2- I have seen a 2008 730iL which only has 11,000km on at the dealer with one year warranty remaining but I am concerned of one thing, when I turned it on to hear the engine and feel the vibrations it was a bit loud when it started (take into consideration it was inside an airconditioned showroom parked for few weeks)?

3- Also I have tested a 735iL 2005 model that has done 52,000km and when I started it and turned on the AC it took a lot of time till cold air started flowing, it was very hot air at the beginning and stayed like that for few mins.(Take into consideration that it was parked outside in the heat with a temperature of above 45degrees.

    Thanks for your guidance Kyle.

    Hi Kyle,
The Dynamic Drive Inaction message popped up two days ago on my 2006 E66 with 41,XXX miles, then it came on again yesterday morning, then I drove 17 miles to the dealer and nothing happened, the mechanic drove 20 miles and nothing happened, I drove 17 miles home and nothing happened during the entire 55 miles today. They have checked the fluid and faulty codes and everything seemed fine. Also, there's a slight popping sound while making turns, I can feel a tiny jerk on the steering but not serious nor annoying. They have replaced the drive shaft coupler 2 weeks ago. The mechanic took something apart and couldn't find anything yet. I need to take it back after the long weekend, they may check the rack and pinion thing. What do you suggest? Thanks.

    Hi,

First off, thank you so much for your help in this community. I certainly appreciate it and so do the other members of the this community.

I have two questions for you if you don't mind:

    1. My passenger side front speaker cuts out quite frequently when the stereo is on, doesn't matter if it is the radio or the cd player. When it does go out, all of the speakers make a buzzing noise and if I turn the stereo off, the buzzing is still there. It does this randomly - when the passenger side front speaker is working there is no buzzing, even with the stereo off. When the passenger's side speaker does cut out, the buzzing is there no matter what. This only happens when the vehicle is on - there is no buzzing or speaker cutting out when the vehicle is off.

    2. When I turn the accessories of the car on, but the engine is off, within a couple of minutes, I get a warning telling me to recharge the battery. Is this a alternator problem, or should I replace the battery? I don't get any error warnings when the vehicle is on. If I do replace the battery, is there a need for the dealer to code the new battery to my vehicle, or is that unnecessary?

I would really appreciate any help from any member on this forum.

    Thank you kindly in advance,
    EuroDriver

Problem with tranny failsafe and rattling on low idle..

    Hi.

My name is Chris and I live in Egersund, Norway.I am new to the forum, and hoped I could get some help here if anyone have the time for it. I hope my post doesn’t bore anyone to death as it is pretty long :o)

    Here’s the case:

I just bought a 2002 745i and drove it home, approx 180 miles, without any problems whatsoever.

The one who sold it to me said there was a fail code showing up, “Gearbox functions impaired”, but he had it investigated and reset in a BMW dealer workshop and they could not find anything wrong with it.
I also called this dealer and got the information confirmed. There should be no problems connected to this error-message they said.

After driving the car a few hours later, stopping engine and starting it up again and selecting reverse gear problems occured.

The automatic transmission started giving errors like:
    - “When engine is off, gear position P is engaged automatically”
    - “Gearbox functions impaired. Possible risk of gearbox failure”
    - “Gearbox pos. P may not be possible. If need be, gearbox emerg. release process is activated.
    On standstill, engage park. brake”
    - “Selection of Reverse may not be possible. Reduced acceleration”
    - “Transmission failsafe. Drive moderately” (in dashboard)
    - "N is only possible when engine is running"

It also drove forwards when i put it in reverse and the indicator stated "R".
After stopping and starting engine a couple of times the tranny seemed ok, but it still comes back with same issues. It does not act up when starting with cold engine, but second time around it may act up if "R" is chosen instead of "D". Seems to me like it faults more often if i put it in "R" before "D"

Went to a transmission specialist and got some fault codes from car. At first he couldn’t get car into gear. After a while it went into gear and it did not change into “P” or “N” when “D” or “R” were selected. The mechanic held the car on the brakes while increasing rpm’s. no problem in Drive og Reverse.
He also took it for a spin without any problems. When stopping the problems came back.
The problem some times also turns up when stopping the for traffic when running on idle speed.
The idle speed with warm engine is about 450-500 rpm, and for me that seems a bit low. With cold engine the idle is about 700 rpm.
According to a local BMW mechanic 450-500 sounds correct for this engine, to me that sounds really low.

I also found out that there was a leak from the tranny so a local indy changed the sealing sleeve for the Mechatronic, part no 24347588725 and topped up wit original BMW tranny oil.

Also had the car diagnosed at a local indy’s and they told me I had to change the tranny. They could not give me the fault codes but after talking to some people in UK, they adviced me to change it anyway. I think they don’t have a clue about the tranny, and just want my money since the car is out of warranty
They also told me that they found misfire on 3 cylinders and that there is a problem with the lambda probe before catalyzer on bank 2.

Today I changed the Integrated supply module part no 12527510638 but this did not help at all.
After the test drive today, I attempted something I found in a forum:
    - I pressed start button without touching brake pedal and kept pushing button. Then I pressed the accelerator pedal to the floor and held both pressed in/down for 1 minute. Then I removed the key and waited 2 minutes.
    - When I started the car again it idled at approx 700 rpm. And I was not able to provoke tranny into failsafe or any other mode, everything seemed honey dorey. I think I tried about 10 times in “D” and “R”. So I turned off car.
    - Started up again and it idled at approx 450-500 rpm. And the faults came back when engaging “D” and “R”.

Repeated the steps above once more with same results..so at 700 rpm everything seems fine, at 450-500 rpm everything is crap..
Engine keeps making rattling noises at low rpm’s as well, I think that might be from misfire.

The car have 122.000 km on it, approx 76500 miles.

Does anyone have a clue what could be wrong? I would appreciate any answer regarding the tranny and rattling issues…

    Best regards,

    Chris

My Heater doesn't blow warm air

I have a 2003 745i that until a week or so ago was just fine.

With temps getting a little cooler, we found last night that the car would not blow warm are no matter what we tried. Turn both controls to 90 degrees and still nothing but cold air?

The fans increase the blowing speed when turned to 90-degrees so it appears that the temp sensor senses things correctly and knows to increase fan speed.

Is there a particular component that fails and causes this and what part is it?

    Rear shock

My rear passenger shock is leaking and lowering the car. The dealership quoted $2.300 to replace. Is this a DIY project? Can I get one used? Any diagrams to show me how to etc?
    BTW I have a 03 760LI
Also, I get a transmision fault when i go to stop at a light etc
(put car back in gear) Car runs smooth with no issues.

I cant afford the bill at the dealership. I really need help.

The car has been wonderfull upto the 100K mark when the warranty ran out. Seems like everything is going wrong.
