Got my new exhaust installed. Unbelievable difference in performance, and sound. I think I picked up the euro headers about two months ago thanks to the timely tip from a member here. (Cheap euro headers on SF CL)
The old system was really worn out. Orig. cat, two 1.5" pipes and the federal header which was cracked and leaking. Three studs broke off in the head, (2) above port 1 and (1) below port 6.
Any way here are some pictures of the system from my phone. The fabricator did a beautiful job. Just perfect.
I picked up a Magnaflow parts cat and "muffler" for about $225 shipped and $500 for fabrication.
It may be a little loud, but right now it sounds like music. And oh man the difference in power and the smoothness of the pull up through the RPM has put a permanent smile on my face.

Awesome! Is the drone inside the car tolerable?
Got any part numbers on the Magnaflow stuff?

What are the chances of getting an audio clip?
I predict your fuel economy will decrease with this new exhaust, at least in the short run. Call it "the insatiable urge to absolutely cane it" syndrome.
Looks good!

youve built the exact exhaust i want on my car, all the way down the exhaust tip size. The only thing i would do differently, and its because i dont see it on 6ers, is a slash cut on the tips.
Looks wonderful! You are right, the fabricators did a great job! Looks factory!

My first impression was the drone would be to much. My friends don't seem to think so and my wife has not complained so.....I'm giving it some time. I'm to infatuated with it right now to be completely rational.
PNs
The cat is; Magnaflow #36008. About $175 from Planet Magnaflow.
The Muffler is; Magnaflow # 12619. About $75 from Planet Magnaflow.
I'll try to get an audio or video with audio clip posted this weekend. Another good excuse to drive.
Thanks Matt. I have no doubt you are right on the money. Ask me if I care though

Hey, thanks for taking the time to provide the part numbers. I may have to try something similar.
(I'll post some pictures later to show why I'm looking at options.)
Here is my motivation for wanting to know more about your exhaust setup.
Wonder what the effect of these special racing reducers is?
Runs pretty good considering

damn. sounds absolutely great.
Ok, so here are two more videos. A stop-n-go, and a drive by.

If you can read this, thank a teacher. If it's in English, thank a veteran.
Sounds great!
Sounds absolutely fantastic! Reminds me of my ///M when it was installed with the Fahey track pipe and the factory exhaust. Simply spine tingling! Other than an Italian V12 fed by webers, nothing comes close to the engine and exhaust note of a well tuned M88/S38 M5/M6.

did you take the vids on LOVR? or Tank Farm? =P
Sounds great!
And maybe it's just the video, but I don't hear any of the low frequency boominess that would typically turn into a drone at times.
no joke, that really does sound amazing. Pretty good price on a custom job too!

Darn close. Tank Farm turns into Orcutt Road south of town. That's the road alright.
Below around 2500 RPM under load it drones in the cabin. I am thinking of adding some sound mating in the trunk and under the rear seats. My theory is that the large areas back there are acting as a passive diaphragm into the cabin. If I get to it and it works, I will report back.
Thank you!!! I am still very happy with the system, the sound and the performance. It goes like stink compared to the old system.
The guy that did the work mainly does custom fabrications now but his dad owned a great muffler shop in town and kind of grew up around the biz. He was hesitant at first, but when I described the job and he looked it over, he got much more interested. I had to get him all the parts, but he picked up on the vision and man can he fabricate and weld. Cash helps keep the cost down to I suppose.

Thanks for getting me thinking Badgas. I just finished my new exhaust and I'm happy to report it doesn't have any bubble gum welds or racing reducers now. Thanks to your input, I checked out the stainless offerings from Magnaflow and ordered a 2.5" by 7" satin stainless muffler and oval sliced stainless tip.
The downpipes go to a 2-into-1 2.5" adapter with the O2 sensor bung, into a Thrush Turbo muffler and on back to the Magnaflow.
The sound is exactly what I wanted and there is no drone inside at all.
I'll snap some pics this weekend when it's up in the air for new RTABs (I put the new dogbones on tonight, woohoo).
Time to update this thread now that the final pieces are in place. The thread started with a whole new system being fabricated. As the engine is tuned to run for power, it is to rich for the aftermarket high flow CAT which was consumed in two years. This was when I decided to fabricate some flanges when I installed a replacement CAT. Now I finally got around to having the "track pipe" section fabricated and installed. The additional glass-packs absorbed the low low load-low RPM drone in the cabin as well which is a big plus. Flanges 10.jpgCAT 1.JPGTrack pipe 1.jpg
VERY nicely done.
