Hi,
I just replaced my stock Business CD/receiver with a JVC KD-R600. It went in easily and it's one of those, "I should have done this sooner" kind of things. It sounds great, has good iphone integration and you can adjust the color to match the rest of the displays.
The problem is that I now get a "chirp, chirp, chirp" when I try to lock or unlock my doors. There was another cable hooked up to the stock BMW radio that is now not attached to anything so I'm assuming that it has something to do with the security system. I know there must be an override of some sort since many of you have replaced your receivers. I did a search, but could not find a specific answer to this.
Thanks for your help.

It's the knob on the back of the stock stereo that's missing. Move the plug over or disconnect the switch that the knob fits into.
Do you mean the rubber knob on the back of the stock radio? I thought that was just a cover for the bolt sticking out the back. It doesn't have anything to do with the extra 5 pin cable that was connected to the stock radio?
The rubber piece pushes a switch in the back of the radio opening to tell the car the radio is present. I just moved the nob from one radio to the other when I installed it, but I had a screw opening on the back of the new unit.
Not positive without pics, but I think the other harness you're speaking of is for the CD Changer. It's square-ish?
The harness is "squarish". :-) That must be what it's for. Thanks, new radio didn't come with bolt sticking out, but I will get one. I appreciate it.
Sorry for the confusion. My new unit simply had a threaded hole in the back where I was able to screw in the plug from the stock unit. I've heard of people using bolts with nuts, and other items. With the radio out, you should be able to get some light in there to see what needs to be pushed. Good luck!
This was actually covered just a week or so ago. You don't need a bolt sticking out. There is a small connector/harness that plugs into the switch (the switch the rubber nub presses) - unplug it, and it will achieve the same thing as the rubber nub. I just did this with my car - after nearly a year without keyless entry, it finally works.

My JVC head unit from Crutchfield came with a rubber bumper to install. Worked with no problem. I can't say enough good things about Crutchfield.
The "chirp chirp chirp" is because the radio alarm switch is not being depressed. The switch is located behind the stereo unit and is depressed by the long finger on the back of the oem unit.

Yup....it was my thread 2 weeks ago that we discussed this. Either tape down the sensor where the black probe used to stick into or unplug the connector just below the sensor. Both fixes worked for me. I unplugged the sensor because I did not want to deal with the tape losing it's sticky(ness) in the future and have it come off the sensor. In either case it got rid of the chirp, chirp, chirp.....

This chirp chirp chirp noise and key less entry(no worky) issue has been my reality since buying the car. The stock unit was long gone when I purchased it. I swapped out the eclipse tape/cd changer set up for a new Kenwood ipod compatible deck from Crutchfield.
I'm hoping there will be an extra wire in the dash and whatever connector that exists on the end will fit into my new deck.
Is there any way someone could explain to me what I am looking for behind the Kenwood radio? Whats the end connector look like, and what exactly am I trying to do?
Sorry for the noob questions and thank you for any insight you can give.
There is a rubber nipple that fits onto a threaded stud protruding from the back of the radio. This nipple depresses a switch as the radio slides into position. If the radio is removed (stolen) while the car is locked, the alarm will sound. If the switch is not depressed, the alarm/keyless entry will not work properly.
Look into the slot with the radio removed and you should see what I'm talking about. The switch is near the firewall if it hasn't been removed or knocked off.
Make sure the path is clear (wiring harness, etc.) as you install the radio with the nipple so that it trips the switch correctly.
I had the same problem after I installed my Alpine iDA-X305. The alarm/keyless entry works perfect now.

Here is a picture of the switch, just remove it.
I'm not seeing this exact piece, but it's hard to miss the black plastic bracket in the center. This is all I see and I'm not seeing a wire going to it or a sensor behind the small openings.
There are philips screws from the bottom that I believe are holding this in. Is this what needs removed or has the switch already been pulled?
That's it. Either:
- Put something on the back of the radio that pokes through that hole
- Wrap tape through and around that thing so that the switch inside is depressed
- Find the wiring connector on that thing and disconnect it
- Remove it altogether

It looks like the switch has fallen out already, reach in there and see if you can find it and unplug the wire going to it. Sorry it's been a while but I believe the switch snaps on to that plastic piece from the rear. If you look at the previous picture, the two small taps go in the two small holes, top left, bottom right in your picture.
Thanks for all the help guys.
I didn't get the last posts until I went behind the glove box. I first removed the little foot cover behind the gb like cameronarrow said in a different thread, then disconnected the single pin connector for the violet/green/yellow to red/white line. For the first time my key-less entry works!!!
I am unbelievably happy with my car right now. The line sits separate from a bundle, above your left foot on the passenger side.
