The non-‘M’ installation uses a flat sheet inner tie rod locking plate and ‘M’ (at least M3) uses flat sheet with a 1/8th inch horse-shoe ‘stop’ that limits rack sector gear travel.
Yea, that's what I was referring to, it's been a while.

yea they'll work, I'd just look at the locking plate/washer and make sure you have or get the correct one if need be.

I'm not sure this is the case for all Z rack (Pelican parts shows the horseshoe shape for Z and E36), but mine had the other style IIRC. (Again, it's been many years now).

Maybe yellow or purple? Someone will have to double check that.

Yeah the yellow tag 712 ZHP rack is the E46 rack everyone gets (when they don't get a non-M Z3 rack). I'll be installing one next week. Some people also use the Z4 rack which is really short but requires some modification to fit in an E36. There's an old thread on that around here somewhere.

When you do the E46 rack do you remove the restrictor in the rack to pump line because the rack has a check valve in the banjo bolt? What does that check valve in the upper banjo bolt do?

I'll find out next week, but everything I'd read online from people who've installed ZHP racks says that it's just a bolt-on with no modifications needed other than using E36 outers.

I'm planning on using my existing E36 banjo bolts and line:

The M3 tie rod locking plate (w/horse shoe ‘stop’ works on all E36 racks as they are virtually all the same rack (except non-‘M’ Z3).
Do they fit non-‘M’ Z3 or E46 racks?

E46 racks don't have locking plates.
