Still haven't heard from schmiedmann. Emailed bmminiparts to see if they could get a hold of it.

    Update:
BMminiparts sent me a special order form last night which i would assume means they can get the part. I dont think it's going to save us much money ordering as a group. Cost for one is about $45 shipped but if i bought 5 it would work out to around $37 each but then i would have to turn around and ship them to the respective owners. I really doubt that's going to save us much money. I think i'm going to go ahead and order one and see what happens.

I just finished this modification. Everything when very easily. I am still trying to find the lower radiator hose but with the cut and splice thing its working and holding fine. If I can find the hose I will post it on here so others can find it also.
6 speed, smileys, Ebach pros and billies, electric sports seats and rear headrests list still growing.

I just finished installing Mishimoto aluminum E36 radiator in my 525iT and I am looking for a way to install a proper temperature gauge. The same solution may work for you folks with V8 engines that need to splice together two parts to make a lower hose if ordering the proper hose continues to be a problem.

    http://www.rallysportdirect.com/Gred...e=Youtube-WITB

It is a metal 38mm temperature sensor adapter. Greddy makes these in different sizes if 38mm is not the inside diameter of the M60 hoses. There are probably other vendors making similar parts. I have not done an exhaustive search yet.

Apologies if this has already been suggested. I did not read the entire thread and do not intend to. Your application is different than mine. I just thought I would suggest this in the event that it will work for you and has not already been considered.

I got the 406 hose from bmminiparts and installed it the other day. It took about two weeks to get it to my door step. Total cost was $45. I'm so glad to finally have my cooling system completely re-done. This was the last piece of the puzzle

Schmiedmann just emailed me back after about a month lol. Too slow.

I just wanted to bump this up and say thanks to everyone for posting this - my 2nd rad in a month on the 740 (first was cracked from when I bought it - second was a junkyard pick up) has a pin hole leak under the intake neck... so I scored a deal on a Mishimoto locally and am going to do this. Thanks again!

I always thought my radiator was different... I've got one of these in my 540i... It really never even hints at going above halfway!

My stock rad doesn't even get above half, even after my upper rad hose popped off at Infineon and had nothing in it. Or when my aux pump took a poop around the neighborhood. Still drove home without it going over. I think the cooling systems on our M60's are just well designed and have a huge coolant capacity in the system.

I'm mainly looking at this upgrade to save space, look shiny, replace my broken fan shroud, and go for an electric fan (or no fan, like this crazy moroza)

Hahah - yeah, I admire the ballsy-ness of going fanless, but I'm not quite that courageous.

What about the Silicone hose and shroud kits that Cooldirect.ca sells?
The question is which one? '92 M3?

Edit: Looks like they're good from '92-'99

Uhh... I do run a fan. Just not a shroud. Because there's only so many times of getting stuck in Florida & Arizona traffic in June without overheating before I cease to give a damn.

Having said that, my aux fan works quite a bit and has blown its fuse a few times. When that happens, the gauge does start creeping up 3/4. A shroud would probably help.

If you blew a coolant line and your temp gauge didn't register, you have a broken temp gauge or sensor. Fix that sh*t straight away, it's important.

I really like the idea of a temp sensor adapter for the splice!

Not sure if this sale is still on but mine was $215 shipped. $315's still not bad.

The 1st one I got leaked, factory replaced it with no problems. I recommend a pressure test before you pull the old one.

How many mounting brackets do I need.

I was going to go with
    2 lower mounting brackets - 17-11-1-709-333 RMEuropean
    2 upper mounting brackets - 17-11-1-712-660 RMEuropean
2 Bracket F. (Front??) radiator - 17-11-1-709-332 Schmiedman or pelican parts has it special order.

    Hoses
Upper Radiator hose - 11-53-1-741-405 from RMEuropean
    Is this the Upper hose?
    Lower Hose 11-53-1-741-406 from Schmiedman

    Sincerely,

    David P.

P.S. I bought the aluminum thermostat housing for the 540i. Should I have gotten the 325i/M3 housing instead?
Putting in the 850Ci 85 degree thermostat

The upper hose does not need to change - whatever your stock one is will work. For my car it is 11531741405.

You don't need 2x 17111709333, only 1x of them. You also 1x 17111709332, which is a similar lower bracket.

I'd also recommend buying new rubber bumpers that the radiator rests on (2x 17111178412).

No, the thermostat housing depends on the waterpump you use, which is the original M60 pump. Good choice on replacing the awful plastic one. As for the thermostat, yes, it'll keep your engine slightly cooler and probably more long-term reliable. However, it may slightly lower your fuel economy.

    540iT Autotragic needs new rad

    Hi guys,
I just pulled my radiator out, a couple of days ago I noticed that there was a small leak from the plastic part in the driver's side of the radiator... as it turns out, yes big crack next to the upper tranny oil connector, and leak even worst when it's hotter, like this

there was also some more coming from the top, see the white thing left of where the water was? yes water, I haven't put coolant on it, since we are on testing phase , just got the car back on the road, after god knows how long...

anyway, I am excited that I found this thread, as I was just pulling it out I was thinking how perfect it would be to have an all aluminum rad but after seeing the pictures of the rad installed, I don't see the connections for the oil (not sure if I am blind)

    http://vr-speed.com/store/mishimoto-...99-p-2103.html

after reading the whole thread, it seems pretty straight forward, just get the mounting clips for the top and try to fin the lower hose or modify the the one I already have. the Fan shroud should also work.

    so basically something like this
    http://vr-speed.com/store/mishimoto-...99-p-2103.html
would work on a manual car, but how about an automatic? if it doesn't work for my autotragic car, then I will be stuck with a Behr one from Pelican until I can do the manual swap

Just buy a tranny oil cooler. Problem solved.

Thought about it... but the part listed online is: 17 20 1 728 770. And those are not cheap when new, I will see if I can find an used one in good shape down here.
for the moment a friend of fine says he can get some sort of resin that can seal the rad... at least temporarily.
if someone knows of another cheaper oil cooler, then it will be much appreciated!
