    Cold Transmission 3rd/5th gear vibration

Hey guys when I start up my car and start driving in the morning I get on the freeway fairly quickly.
When I put it in 3rd or 5th, the gear knob starts vibrating, almost like grinding, unless I keep the knob forward to prevent it from doing so. After I drive a few more miles, the amount of play tightens up and I don't have to do anything.

Any ideas? Car just hit 100k and I'm thinking it might just need a transmission fluid change. Is there anything else that could be the issue?

by the way it doesn't seem to be speed related
If I put it into 4th at 65 no vibration vs 5th at 65 there is vibration
and If I'm in 4th at 80 no vibration 5th at 80 vibration

I posted in the E36 M section but no one responded in a week.

The fluid change might help, but it seems to me that it's more likely an internal problem, ie bearing, shaft. Mine has a vibration in 3rd but I have to hold the lever forward to feel it. Mine actually shifts better in the morning when it's cold.

I had that problem before and it went away after replacing the bushings and plastic washers on the selector rod. They are cheap, so it's worth a try.
Do I really need a signature???
