    '05 BMW 760I - Christmas shopping

Anyone here familiar with the 760I ? This car was on ebay (but time has run out). I'm wondering if this would be a good car for the Wife - or if it's overkill. Sure looks good in the pics but perhaps someone knows about this particular year and model. Any help appreciated :

Very nice cars. Have heard that they are very high
maintenance. Lots of electronics in that car. Awesome car to drive and very classy.

Under warranty. The car will automatically turn into a gas station. Does your wife need a 400+ hp car?

I rode in a 07 750, and its pretty tame. Even when you step on it.... its pretty tame car. Not sure about this beast though, I'm sure it will be fine to drive.

Whoever drove did not step on it enough.

I completely agree, having driven a 740iL/745/750 all of them, especially the 750 had a good amount of get up and go... not sure what it would be like to "stomp" on that torque master tho. I imagine the smiles would last a while. I too have heard that maintenance on these is some thing to consider, granted coming from an 8er family it's expected but I really do think this is a different kind of "beast" ... doesn't stop me from wanting one .

They are cheap enough Thomas - a 2002 745 is about $16-22k. Dream to drive, nightmare to look at the BButt (TM). Ditto the new 6er, but the price of admission is still high and the butt is superfugly.

I have 3 BMWs... I can't honestly justify spending money on another one tho Lad ... the 745 has by far the ugliest rear... no doubt. The new biturbo 750s are not bad looking, if I were really going to buy a 7 I'd hold on for one of those... someday I'll have a Jay Leno style garage for only BMWs. When that day comes you will all be invited .

I really can't see the butt-ugliness of the car's rear end that's mentioned here - the eyes of the beholder, I'd guess..

yep, guess the electronics could turn into spaghetti - but what modern luxury car won't ?

asked my wife if she would really use all that HP - she looked at me seriously and said : "well yeeaahh !" (this after I let her drive my recently chipped 850)

like I said, "shopping" (sure is a beautiful car tho). Bill

    p.s.: depreciation isn't a factor here

I love my E38. It started my BMW addiction almost 10 years ago now.

    750iL is gone from ebay

I've already got 1 old BMW that doesn't have a warranty - don't need another. Just might have to take a look at a year or two old Lexus. Bill

    I miss my E31!!!!!!!!!!
I drove the 760 on the BMW track during an 8-Fest in NC and thought it was pretty tame (Well...My passenger disagreed physically). That was probably because I drove it right after I got out of the M3 autocross and the Z4 performance driving. The 760 was much more advanced technologically for the driver to feel less connected and thus experiencing the full driving impact/potential.
