Yellow 92 8 series in Miami...... driving down 152 St across from Zoo Miami....
I was in the Drk Blue 740il.......
I will be back in Miami with my 91 850 by New Years......
Looking foward to hooking up.
I started re-watching Breaking Bad, noticed this in season 1 episode 1
Well there are at least three 8's in Charlotte. I was on Highway 74 this AM about 7:30AM when to the left and ahead of me was a red 850i...with the V12 emblem on the rear. License plate was NC "12CYLNDR". Don't know the emblem story. Mine doesn't have the V12 emblem. Missing (?) or did some not get them depending on production dates or Ci...?
Or maybe the V12 emblem came form a Mercedes dealership...

Spotted a Black 850 in the Oak Brook shopping Mall yesterday about 1 pm, Nice clean car and you can tell the owner takes care of it, Very clean and oem looking! Golf cap and shades on,) License last 3,----256-----.
A Very nice black 8 series (could not see 840 or 850) taking the Franklin Road exit off I-84 in Boise, ID.
Was not expecting to see an E31 in Boise. But pleasantly surprised. The car looked great!!
Dan at Touring Car in Stallings has ~6-7 customers with either 840s or 850s. He said 1-2 are 6spd manuals, but I know of no CSi's in the Charlotte area.
I myself bought a '92 Calypso Red 6spd 850i (CB42549) in June '09 up in Fayetteville, NC. Dan's shop worked on mechanical issues and I had a local upholstery shop redo the interior as it was in sad shape, but I finally conceded a SERIOUS oil leak that meant a COSTLY engine repair. I even took it to Power Plant Racing up in Reidsville (Henry Lawrence has built the most powerful 8 engine ever) for a leak down test and a rebuild quote, but after several months we made a deal where I bought a '92 Laguna Green automatic 850i (CB74582) with a AC Schnitzer body kit. Even the "new" 850i needed work where I took it to McNeely Motorsports (also in Stallings) and I just got it back for Xmas yesterday.
It had a moderate oil leak fixed; the sunroof fixed (along with a new headliner); my A/C blew hot out of the passenger side vents; the instrument cluster stayed on when I turned off the car; they put in the brighter Silverstar bulbs; we put in a BMW Business CD Stereo from a Z3.
The only things it needs still is a former owner (I am the 3rd) tinted the back window at one time and when they removed it it left a permanent film that will not come off. I'd like to see if I can get a key-less entry fob for my 850i, but it may not have been equipped where this is not a daily driver so I will live with it if the case. Also, the heater control unit in the console is at slant because where the screws go inside the console just broke as I was leaving the shop on Friday...I will get that fixed next week.
I had a detail shop go over the 850 with a fine tooth comb once the mechanical repairs were complete. They stripped it down and compounded it...put a couple of coats of Zaino on it. There are not that many 8's on the road in our area to begin with, but mine has a NC Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway rear plate...and an authentic white German plate on the front with CB 74582. I've met a few people in town with 8s, but still not a lot. Now that I got mine fixed up I may head down to the monthly BMW Club dinner at Waldhorn in Pineville.
My 850 has a V12 emblem on the left side of the trunk lid that I was told was factory and then V12 emblem on each side just in front of the doors that I had taken off since they were Mercedes added after-market.
The thing that surprises me most about my 850 is that my wife likes driving it over our 540 sport. She boasted when we first started dating that she'd never had a speeding ticket, but then she gets in the 850 and tells me she is doing 100mph down 485 when she forgets to check the speedometer.
Fun Stuff
PS - I looked up Charlotte Star Service where it looks like that is about where Der Wagen Haus was once located. It's been YEARS since my college German, but I remember Das Auto; Der Wagen and Das Haus where I seem to recall our professor always saying it should be Das Wagen Haus because of Das Haus.
I've had two '92 850s where one had the V12 emblem and the other did not. I was told the one that had the V12 emblem was factory, but not sure if factory meant literally at the factory in Germany or something the dealership put on it.

Bryan,
Thanks I just read all of this because I didn't see it until after the emails last night. Great information here. When it rains it pours ....today I was headed over to Viking Imports with my alternator in tow Eastbound on Wendover before Monroe and I saw the same red 850i that I had seen on Independence with the license plate "12CYLNDR", at least it looked to me to be the same fellow.
So it is great to know that there are several other owners in the area. I may head down to your guy in Stallings tomorrow and see if he knows of any one in CLT/environs that can rebuild my alternator...thanks for the PM and contact information.
Scott
Hey Scott - nice meeting you and glad Gerald was able to help you out. His email is mcneelymotorsports@gmail.com where even if you are working on it yourself I suspect he can help you get parts. I thought Touring Car serviced more 8's (per Dan), but from Gerald said he had 3 with one of them being sold and the other being mine that Gerald now services. I still bet there are at least 10-15 8's in the Charlotte area if we could track them all down. It would be nice to have a local meetup some Saturday.
I hope to have my 8 back running in the next two weeks...anytime you want to look at it to compare to yours you are welcome to stop by.
I don't remember if I posted this before, but a few months ago near the Mississauga/Oakville border, I saw this dusty 850i J-spec with the ACS kit + wheels. I just found the SD card I had the pics on. Figured I'd post.

Silver 8er spotted on PCH in Laguna Beach, New Year's Eve.
I saw a Calypso Rot E31 going south-bound on Saratoga Blvd in Saratoga, CA around 4 p.m. today.
When in doubt, drive flat out!
Saw a Black 840 (looked to be completely stock) parked in the Self Storage Plus parking lot on Greenbelt Rd. Jan. 2nd.
Saw a black 8 (not sure whether 840 or 850) going down on El Camino Real towards Mathilda Ave. in Sunnyvale. It has an ///M logo on the trunk and ///M paint stripe on the driver's side fender. Went by too quickly while I was coming out of a parking lot. Anyone in the Bay Area seen that one before or is the owner?
North Vancouver Jan 1st. Anyone here?

Hi Lawlshane, The dusty 850i you located is now up in the Guelph ON area. It turns out to be a German Spec. It was in Germany for sometime and then shipped to Japan. It needs some work, as the last owners were not too kind to it. It's running properly now and we have a mechanic in this area that knows these cars well. There is only one other 850 within 10 miles of here that is a green color. He drove past here in the fall while I was washing this one, tried flagging him down, but he was long gone... The Schnitzer will be back out to play in the spring. Cheers
That makes two of us!
Saw a dark--maybe blue or black--840 in Washington, DC on 9th between N and O parked on the street at a BP station. It was just outside the Washington Auto Show.
I was test driving the CTS-V
Saw an red 850 with NC tag 12CLYNDR (or something close to that) at Touring Car Inc in Stallings, NC.
It was locked up in the car storage area, but the owner Dan was working on my 850 and gave me his keys to the storage area to look at this other 850. I know a 6spd...i think a '92.
