So i came across a craigslist post of an e36 that claimed to have an M62 in it. I was wondering if this would even be possible with out lots of custom work.
Enlighten me please.
Maybe someone in the Engine Conversion section would be better able to answer your question...good luck
I lurk on the engine swap forum from time to time. Has this swap actually been done and documented?
yes it is possible and have been done. Me looking for a M62 trans came across a documented thread on the swap. I think it actually takes more fab work to drop it in an e36 than it does in an e30. Im currently swapping my e30/m30 for a m62 and i do believe its a more difficult swap for the e36. For me the trans is the most difficult part if you cant find a direct fit.
Some guy floating around here has a 344i. I think its a vert.
If you want a v8, you might as well do an ls1, it will be cheaper and easier to make power.
Why would some one do an M62 swap? They only have 282 hp. Though then again if it can take my 7 from 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds then it would make a light weight 3 very fast. It as a tone of torque. If you are going to do an M62 swap then please update the cooling system with it. M62 cooling systems are among the least reliable. Also remember they have water cooled alternators.
Some people like to stay BMW and cant afford a s62
