    2002 e36 engine swap ?

Do people ever put e36 engines in 2002s? I have seen the older e30 ones in 2002 but what about the e36 ones?

I have a friend pulling a blown m20, and installing an s50. I'm hoping to compare them side-by-side before he installs it. I'm not convinced the m20 is any easier to fit than an m50. Obviously wiring would be a little more difficult, but for the extra power...

It's been done a few times. There's no good way to do it. Definitely not plug and play like the M20 or S14. The best of that type motor to go with is the M52/M54 for their relative lighter weight (aluminum blocks).

The M50 is considerably larger (longer) than the M20. It barely fits an E21. Perhaps actually comparing the size of the engine to the 2002's engine bay might convice you. The wiring part is easy in comparison to moving the firewall and re-fabbing the core support.
