It's only cool if it's actually got 6.6L of displacement.

    +1

Now the question is, what engine(s) could you drop in that would give you that badge number?

    It's probably not a BMW engine if it's actually a 6.6l

    Oh no doubt. Now, let's see... 6.6l = 403 c.i. Did anyone make a 403?

    Google and Wikipedia say... Yes!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldsmobile_V8_engine#403

    Voilà:

Cram one o' dems under the hood of an E24 and you have a 666CS (no "i").

    And then I shoot you.

    Misnomer?

The plain fact that the mid-eighties 745i had a 3.4 liter displacement low- boost pressure turbo power plant (M107) should tell you that not all things you hear are actually the facts. BMW couldn't very well call the car a 735 as that had already occured...so what do they do...change the old rules to fit the current day circumstances.

    Carpe Diem and Buyer Beware?

The BMW M106 motor replaced the BMW M102 motor. The addition of Bosch Motronic engine management and an increased displacement to 3.4 liters produced the same output power as the M102 at lower RPM and with better fuel economy, and at only 6 psi vs. the M102 boost pressure of 10 psi. The M106 motor was used to power the 745i E23 until its end of production in 1986.

I'm currently investigating building out a 650... get a wrecked 750, shoehorn the v12 under the hood of a 635, don't know exactly how to make the 5 speed work, but I'm sure there is an adapter.

Lol, that's the sort of confidence that results in unfinished projects. The only option is the rare 6 speed from an 850i. That will cost you at least $2k on it's own.

Its in the mag thread in this subsection. While conducting some research the car is a turbo m30 pushing 550whp.

It's been done and has been considered by a lot of people.
In the end it's a lot of trouble for only 300hp.

And, the Chev 400cui was badged as 6.6litre.

yea the '666csi' was at SESF this year. Car is very well put together, the exhaust manifold is a thing of beauty.

REHaas, take a look at those photos of it, one of the most badass 6ers out there today.

666csi is a CT car which I've seen in at Lime Rock and at this year's SESF. It''s beautifully put together by http://www.sports-car-restoration.com/
I went up to visit this shop which is run by a bunch of young gearheads that do great work. Check out their site, it has great pictures of their work in progress.

    Cool V12 threads

Their are some threads about v12 installs on this forum. Do a quick search for V12.

I thought the 745i E23 had the 633CSi 3210 engine. Unless you were in South Africa where it had the M88.

The M102/M106 were a turbo variant of the m30b32/b34 respectively

There were 2 different 745i turbo engines. The earlier one has a 89mm bore and the later one is 92mm.

Note that I posted at the same time, so I didn't have the benefit of your glorious wisdom while typing my post.

Also note the the turbo engines are not "just" turbo'd M30s. The pistons are different, the valves have special coatings, the heads are special, etc, etc.
