Won't start after engine is warm....

    Hello everyone.

I am new to the E24 community and am the proud owner of an 86 635csi in great condition with low kms (130K). I've only had if for a month and love everything about it. It runs exceptionally! Except that lately when the engine is warm after even a short (30 min) ride, it will not turn over. It just clicks when I try to start it. If I wait half an hour or more it will start but will have trouble turning over as it clears the radio code and time display in the process. It starts fine when the engine is cold but I can't figure out why it won't start when its warm. The battery is only a couple of years old and the connections don't seem corroded.

    Anyone experiencing the same phenomenon????

    Thanks in advance!

None the less, it sounds like a bad cell in the battery or possibly a bad solenoid on the starter

If the engine doesn't turn over at all, it could be starter issue. The expansion of heated parts in the starter and/or solenoid can make problems like shorts and excessive wear more apparent.
If the starter is in good shape, the load on an intermittent battery should be higher when the engine is cold than when it's warmed up.

Thanks for the replies guys. You've all been a great help. I guess that I've got some investigating to do.
