We've updated the results for the 1-Series to include owner experiences through December 31, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the months since April until the summer or even fall of this year.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2011: 40, about average (too few to split)

    2009 128: 29, better than average

    2009 135: 138, worse than average

    2008 128: 67, about average

    2008 135: 118, worse than aeverage

We've split the 128i and 135i because of the HPFP issue with the latter. We've been doing this for a while for the 3 and the 5.

Thank you, once again, to everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in May and August. The more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone. Especially need more for 2009 and up.

Not sure how accurate these things are really...I have the "worst 1 Series" MY2009 135i and I have put 30k on it in 1 year, whilst it is fully modded and I have done nothing except routine maintenance.

Notice how even the 2009 is under 100. This means there are cars that had no reported problems in the past year (and more than 1 in 10, as some cars had 2+).

Other reliability ratings are entirely relative. To avoid the false conclusion that "below average" is the same as "bad," we also provide the absolute repair frequencies. Those we describe as "moderate" are below average, but I wouldn't say these are unreliable cars. Many, even most still require no repairs in a given year.

We do need more participants, especially for years after 2009. People not yet signed up can do this here:

New stuff this time. We've updated our reliability stats for the 1-Series to include owner experiences through the end of 2014. Plus we've added reliability trends graphs. These indicate how a model's reliability has changed as it has aged, and how different model years performed when the same age.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

    2012 1-Series: 32, low, small sample size
    2011 1-Series: 38, moderate
2010 1-Series: 12, low, very small sample size
    2009 1-Series: 27, low
    2008 1-Series: 64, moderate

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds", to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop:

    2008 1-Series: 52, < 1

We'll have further updates in May and in August. Additional participants would be very helpful (especially for model years with no stats or a sample size note).

For the details, including how competitors compare, and to sign up to help improve this information:

So, how have these cars been doing lately?

Our reliability stats for the 1-Series now include owner experiences through March 31, 2015. (Others are nearly a year behind.)

In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year ("low" is best):

    2012 1-Series: 38, moderate, small sample size
    2011 1-Series: 36, low
2010 1-Series: 14, low, very small sample size
    2009 1-Series: 33, low
    2008 1-Series: 67, moderate

No stat for a model year? Then we very much need more participants for it. Same for those with small sample size notes. Next updates in August and November.

Our reliability stats for the 1-Series now cover the year ending June 30, 2015.

    Repair trips per 100 cars:

    2013 1-Series: 0, low, small sample size
    2012 1-Series: 35, low, small sample size
    2011 1-Series: 26, low
2010 1-Series: 24, low, very small sample size
    2009 1-Series: 36, low
    2008 1-Series: 52, low

If a model year isn't listed, or its sample size is small, then we especially need more owners involved.

We've updated our reliability stats for the 1-Series to include owner experiences through the end of 2015, about eight months ahead of other sources. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year--lower is better:

    2013 1-Series: 9, low
2012 1-Series: 63, moderate, very small sample size
    2011 1-Series: 19, low, small sample size
2010 1-Series: 24, low, very small sample size
    2009 1-Series: 76, moderate
    2008 1-Series: 78, moderate

No stat, or a small sample size? Then we especially need more owners involved for that model year.
