    Are all e39 models the same as far as the body goes

    More specifically. I'm doing some pretty intense body work on the front left a and b pillar area. I have a 2000 540i. Will a 2001 525i be the same

    M5 is different in the trunk area. The two cars you're asking about are the same, body wise.

    Yes, but you need to modify the holding a little bit. Search the forum for how-to.
