I was able to pop out the piece that holds the 2 map lights and the dome light but there's a metal piece covering the middle dome light. Since the light's not working I wanted to replace it but can't seem to get to it.
Any ideas ?

bump... I would think for the folks who changed out their oem lights to led would know how to do it. I searched and couldn't find anything.
I've never had to replace any of the interior bulbs and surprisingly, the manual for your 540 doesn't have the procedure.
You'll get more responses to this question if this thread is in the E39 subforum.

btw - the metal piece didn't look like it would go anywhere. there's an easier way. Just remove the black face out. There's clips around that just give it a simple push and it comes out. start from one side and contine around. then you'll have full view of the dome bulb.
