I was wandering what alternatives exist to the oil filter plates, the one that replace the metal oil filter housing cap (e.g the one on the S52/M52 single VANOS) to allow the installation of an oil cooler.
I know Irealand makes it, who else?

I'm in the process (I mean right now, just taking a break to eat some dinner) of writing a program to produce my oil cooler adapter blocks on some cnc equipment I recently scored...
I hated making those things on a manual machine, but writing a program isn't much less painful.
Great news Randy!!!
Ok, so here's what I did. I bought an M42 oil filter housing on eBay to retrofit on my M44 (same fitting on the motor). The M42 oil filter housing uses the same oil filter cap of the S52/M52 (same p/n). IE is not sure whether the inside spindle (going to the motor) is the same. It's at home waiting for me and I'm supposed to call them tomorrow to measure it and see...
Question. In case it's not the same would you by any chance be able to custom make one. Basically you'll just have to change the diameter of whatever goes there... And btw, I can just mail you the housing so you can work on it directly, if that would be easyer. Or if you have a blueprint in AutoCAD, I can take a look and adapt it for my application... Whatever works best... Well of course, if you think you could help.

Victory Product Design used to make some - I think the IE ones are based off of the VPD one.
The alternative I have could be a plate similar to this one
That would allow me to completely relocate the oil filter oil comes out, of the motor, goes to a remote filter, thorugh a thermostat, into the heate exchanger, back to the motor...

haha, interesting plate though, sounds doable!
Randy, not sure what you're doing as far as programming goes, but I'm proficient in Solidworks (Industrial Designer by day). If you need some modelling done send me a PM.
Yes, I should point out that it's more geared toward putting the S-54 oil filter/oil cooler on the S-52, than it is intended for any other model.
I wish you were closer...
Being self-taught on manual mills and lathes isn't much of an advantage when trying to learn "G" & "M" code programming. Truth be told, I probably could've run off 1/2 dozen of the damn little things in the amount of time I've been screwing with code. There's little argument though, that once the code is written (correctly) these hateful little things will be a lot easier to produce.
Patience...

so where do you get that red plate that bolts to the side of the timming cover????
Where do you buy the oil filter housing adapter cap pictured above....looks like it says "Victory"????
Thanks. I'm building an M44 track car with a DA blower and wanted to remote the filter and possibly add an oil cooler.
I don't know who makes that red plate above, but VAC makes a similar one for the 6-cylinders:

As far as the VPD (Victory) cover, they are out of business.

Randy, How are you ever going to move to Florida if you keep acquiring more machines? I've dragged some lathes and surfacers ,etc down here. They don't move too easy!

Donny, it's official; the sale of Sue's business closed one (1) week ago. Supposed to have a "conference call" tomorrow with the developer over the lot purchase.
Next step will be to make a quick trip down to meet with the builder and initialize/approve plans.
I figure it's going to take a couple of them pod-like things (plus a U-haul for the "stuff I need now"). NOT looking forward to this part of it
Yes, on a almost 9 yr old post to boot.
This was before Randy moved to Florida and Josh was still active.
